Description Note: I've censored the radio channel that appeared on this billboard.

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man." -Matthew 24:36-39 NIV [link]

Jesus' own words apparently didn't stop Harold Camping, the founder of Family Radio Worldwide, from trying to calculate the date of the Rapture. I caught a glimpse of one of these signs while on Bart, and I decided to get a close up snapshot of one of them. It's quite amazing to see the crazy ideas people will promote.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a happy May 21st a month from now.

WTF is it with Harold Camping and thinking that the world will end in years that end on a Saturday?

He's predicted the world to end in 1994 and 2011, and i think he said something about 1988 too. And 2005 is the only other year ending on a Saturday in recent times he hasn't made a prediction

Only significance I could think of is that Saturday is the Jewish Sabbath. Maybe it was a religious significance. Or maybe he thought having the rapture happen over the weekend would be more convenient.

Since the time I've posted this, we've had 2012, Pope Francis called the either the anti-christ, the last pope, or both because of the 12th century Prophecy of the Popes of St Malachy (a prophecy which even many Catholics say is really a 16th century hoax) and John Hagee's 4 red Moon predictions. People still won't learn their lessons.

BAM! Invisible Rapture. You see, Jehovah established the Watchtower in 1914 - the first time the world ended. It's ended a few times since then, but because Jesus returned invisibly, we just didn't know it.

Or whatever.

Well. Maybe next Tuesday.

I find it funny (in the odd, ironic sort of sense) that a book that justifies domestic abuse, infanticide, murder, rape, kidnapping, racism, slavery and schizophrenic people to be called "holy" would even dare call itself a "family friendly" in any sort of positive context.

I also find it funny that we've apparently had a "rapture" in almost every century after the Christians went ballistic and started killing and brainwashing everyone (and they say Islamic extremists aren't just another sect of Christianity). Examples? Year 666 A.D, the black plague, VM epidemic, I believe the flu epidemic during the war times was also considered to be a rapture, but that's a blurry patch, volcanic aftermath in Egypt, ect.

I still wonder when their going to realize that every possible definition of "religion" matches with the definition of "brainwash", which is, purposeful suppression of a person in which you are teaching them how to speak and think, or something like that.

The rapture didn't come on neither on Saturday, May 21st, 2011 or Friday, October 21st, 2011 and probably never will ever. I even doubt that the world will come to an end on December 21st, 2012. I found that guy, Harold Camping to be a load of shit. You can't put a date on the end of the world. The world probably won't come to an end until about a few billion years from now. The human race probably will already be extinct by then.

GuineaPigDan In reply to InfernoBlastFire [2011-11-29 23:15:53 +0000 UTC]

You'd think people would learn after all these failed dates. I guess not.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

InfernoBlastFire In reply to GuineaPigDan [2011-11-30 01:50:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, probably not. These doomsayers always said that the world will comes to an end for centuries and it never happen It probably won't stop after December 21st, 2012. They may said that the year 2060 the world will come to an end like Sir Isaac Newton predicted. Some may said it will be the year 3797 like Nostradamus predicted. I think we're in a vicious and seemly endless cycle.

Is there a way to "cry mightily"? Eh, in case of the bible, we might as well have one more contradiction.

The one way Catholics are smart is that they don't put dates on the apocalypse, so they can't be proven fools no matter how ridiculous their vague predictions are. That reminds me of this video: [link]

I've seen that DM2525 vid. Pretty interesting.

The only groups of Catholics I have seen that obsess over the end times are the ones that take the so called "Prophecy of the Popes" seriously (good news, Benedict XVI is second to last) and people that try to interpret the Third Secret of Fatima to have something to do with the End Times.

It gets annoying seeing alot of people predicting this and that about the world ending, it didn't happened on May 21 and it's NOT going to end in 2012 and the only thing that will be happening is the gas going up even more and other stuff but people, ONLY God knows wen the world will end, enjoy ur lifes and don't worry about wat people r predicting. c:

A lot of people are confusing his claims they think he's saying the world is gonna end 21st of May 2011 but he isn't he saying that he is saying the rapture is happening. Which means The followers of Christ are suppose to disappear and get swept up into heaven. Then 5 months of war, plagues, natural disasters and famine and then Judgment day. Apparently Saturday is just the beginning of the end.

But I don't think it will happen because the bible says not even the son of God knows when it is going to happen.

SavyGabi In reply to Elvish-Designs [2011-05-21 20:02:21 +0000 UTC]

I'n not confusing it, that's exactly what I meant when I said "It's as if Gods picking favorites now..." with the whole heaven.

the face people are saying it is the end of world proclamation and it isn't. He's just saying the rapture (which I am not sure is even true).

As much as I know this will probably come and go without so much as a tremor, I can't help but be somewhat afraid. I actually only heard about this whole nonsense just a couple days ago. My common sense, and Bible itself, tell me no one could possibly know about that certain day when the world will go into Rapture. This guy is kinda foolish for trying to predict what he can't possibly know, but it still sets me on edge until the clock hits 6:01 PM and no earthquake has hit my time zone. Precautions are good, but the suspense and waiting is horrible.
On a side note, this guy is going to come under some major fire if this whole thing blows over; no earthquake, no respect for you, Mr. Camper.

Now don't get me wrong the may 21st doomsday prediction is laughably silly and a real hoot to hear about, (seriously how do people get suckered into these things?) but it's a cautious laugh I have at their expense because a nagging thought comes to mind, what if this turns into another heaven's gate incident? just saying this guy Harold Camping is clearly coo coo for coco puffs, how do we know he won't go there?

aah probably nothing don't mind me...
