Description Years before Lois Griffin became a regular on "Family Guy," she did a series of kung fu films. In this particular one, she single-handedly kicks the living crap out of the Hong Kong underworld. It had a great soundtrack too, with Ram Jam, Foghat, Thin Lizzie and Blue Oyster Cult. It might actually have this song on it www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3u0q4…

This one goes out to kiff57krocker kiff57krocker.deviantart.com/ , who challenged me to draw a Lois with nunchucks. I couldn't turn that down, so I pulled out "Enter the Dragon" and started to gather freeze frames. I really enjoyed kiff's gallery, and enjoyed this latest adventure with Lois. This is my first pic with her doing martial arts (we all loved that Lethal Weapon episode), and hopefully not my last. The flames in the background were inspired by a Toyohara Kunichika woodblock print.

BTW, check out my friend's Lois picture at www.deviantart.com/art/Enter-t…

Wow. Martial Arts Lois and a mention of Myron Floren!

My wife and I think Robert Rodriguez is GOD and thus are loving the new tv network El Ray. We love Flying Five Finger One Armed Eight Pole Shaolin Exploding Death Touch Thursdays. Now whenever I watch I will be imagining Lois doing all the butt-kicking. Complete with sound effects!

Is Lois Griffin's past as a kung fu actress canon?

Actually it is...there is an episode called "Lethal Weapons" from season two. It is hysterical. In one scene she kicks the crap out of a whole bar full of guys.

Your latest work honors me, Sir.  I just had to download this for my personal collection.  You've really captured the essence of female ferocity in this pic.  And you've done very well for your first effort with a classic martial arts theme.  If Bruce Lee could see this pic, I believe he would've been both proud and amused!  I especially liked your inclusion of two of my favorite rock groups, Foghat and Blue Oyster Cult for the soundtrack.  Well done, fellow veteran.  Well done indeed!  If you were ever to do another Lois-with-nunchuck poster pic, I swear I would go into fits of ecstasy; and I don't mean the date-rape drug either, n'yuk, n'yuk, n'yuk!  Again, well done!

Thanks! It was so interesting gathering the freeze frames of Bruce Lee; it's not easy to do, as quick as he moves, but once you do you have an epic photo. I had another I really liked where he was swinging a bo staff around.

I love that soundtrack too...Black Betty would have to start off the movie. My friend Kaspired really likes BOC, and my other buddy CapnSkusting capnskusting.deviantart.com/ actually knows them. I was kind of leaning for more of a southern rock thingee...she could start off the movie by kicking the daylights out of a bunch of guys in a bar in Georgia. I just love the music of that era, although I'm sort of more of a prog rock fan...Yes, ELP, that sort of thing. Huge Rush fan. If the movie came out in '74, it might have been cool to include "Take a Friend" on it www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xNaqZ… .

You wouldn't believe how quickly this thing came together - I only started it this morning with the pencil work. We're just digging out of the snow here in Indy, so it's been a great excuse to do lots of art.

Well, I'm more of a classic rock type, myself, Beatles, Buddy Holly, Rolling Stones, that sort of thing.  Still, I'll always listen to "Slow Ride" by Foghat and BOC's "Don't Fear the Reaper."  As for freeze frame poses, I agree it is a little difficult with a subject like Bruce Lee, but with time and practice you'll get the hang of it.  I know you will.  You've got the touch, I can see it right off.  My favorite fight sequence from Enter the Dragon was of Lee using two batons, one in each hand, to beat the snot out of the guards.  This is a Philippine martial art called eskrima.  I would be very interested in seeing Lois using twin batons to clobber the bad guys.  As for the winter you're having to deal with in Indiana, I feel for you.  I had to put up with snow and ice one year in south Korea and for three years in west Germany during my hitch in the Army.  It seems like the entire Eastern and Midwest parts of the United States are entering another Ice Age.  I hope Spring comes soon for you.  Keep up the great work, buddy!  And I'll be looking forward to that new Lois martial art pose I suggested.  Stay well.

Are you out west? I spent part of my growing up in the Phoenix area. I really suffered that first winter of 76 when I got back this way.

Speaking of Beatles, I've got Revolver playing right at this moment. What I listen to really depends on what mood I'm in; I'm quite a fan of classical and jazz as well. Usually when I'm into a project, I need something with a little more "jump" to it. Sometimes I'm just in a metal mood.

One of my favorite scenes in Enter the Dragon isn't even a combat one - it's the scene where he pops the cobra into that security office and gets that non-chalant look on his face like, "Anytime now..."

Yes, I grew up in and live in Southern California.  My late maternal grandmother used to live in Arizona, in a one-horse town called Holbrook.  My two favorite John Lennon songs are "I Feel Fine" and "Whatever Gets You Through the Night."  You'll probably laugh at this, but at times when I need music to get me into an artistic mood, I listen to polkas.  I grew up with Lawrence Welk and learned to play the accordion when I was twelve.  I still play the accordion, having recently acquired a beautiful Pancordion accordion similar to the one used by the late Myron Floren and Frank Yankovic.  Other than that, rock 'n roll will usually get me into the proper action art mood.  And I agree that that scene where Bruce snuck that cobra into the radio room was quite funny.  As those two bad guys crash through the window glass, screaming like little girls, Bruce was probably thinking, "what a couple of schmucks" as shown by his facial expression.  Hilarious.

I was born in Cincinnati and moved to Phoenix in 1972. We used to visit an aunt in Anaheim in those days. Pops got laid off in 1976, and we moved back to Ohio for a year. I've lived in the Indianapolis area since 1977. I visited my brother in Temecula in 1996, and took my daughter to a YouTube convention in Century City in 2010.

I still own a beautiful old National solidbody guitar that I've had since 1980. They are so rare that I've only seen one other in 34 years.

Typical art music for me might be Rush Hemispheres or some of my music mixes. Clapton's Layla gets played on about every project. I've been very big on early Utopia lately. Note my music lyric projects - I'd like to do more of those.

You play the "gittar"?  Good for you.  A pity we couldn't get together to jam.  And I'm happy to learn you have your own family.  I'm still single.  Never found the right woman, I guess.  Not for a lack of trying though.  Maybe we'll meet someday.  In the meantime, let's continue with our art and an exchange of ideas.  Again, I hope you'll give some consideration to Lois Griffin using double batons as Bruce Lee did in "Enter the Dragon."  I'd love to see that in your style.

I want to try that pic of Bruce with that broom stick; just the idea of her making that Bruce Lee sound is hysterical.

Nanny and I have been married for 23 years; we got married just before the Desert Storm ground war broke out, and people at the wedding were wondering what was going to jump off in Iraq. I'm glad I didn't have to screw around with it. Nan and I in the late 80's were dating people with all kinds of problems, and we decided to combine forces and date each other. I actually met her at a church function in late 1984. Our kiddo is a 20 year old college student, who is home for the holidays right now.

If you'll shoot me your e-mail address, I'll send you some sketches and stuff. I want to do more with the martial art stuff.

Okey-Dokey then.  I'll send my e-mail address to you in a note. (be sure to check your notebox).  And I'm happy to know you've got a good marriage going on and that your child is now in college.  Congrats to both you and the Mrs.
