"Thanks for coming along with us, Aunt Merc," Mazda smiled up at her as the two of them and Alexus made their way back home after picking up and trying on Mazda's new school uniform.

"My pleasure, Mazda," Mercedes returned the smile. "It also means I got to be one of the first to see you in your uniform. Your dad and big sisters are going to be knocked dead over how cute you are."

"Of course!" Mazda would have thumped her chest with her free hand if she had any. "I am a girl, after all."

"And she gets it all from her mother," Alexus grinned devilishly. "By the time you grow up, you're going to be having all the guys throwing themselves at you."

"She'll have to be extra careful than you, Lex," Mercedes teased, "because she'll actually take care of her looks."

"Oh, you be quiet, Merc," Alexus just stuck her tongue out before looking back at Mazda, "Where is the time going? You haven't been with us long, Mazda, and you're already going to school before long. Don't grow up too fast on us..."

"If you say so, Mommy!" she felt Alexus's hand squeeze hers. "But I'll be okay. Daddy is setting it up so Ayu and I will be in the same class."

"Oi! Wot's all this, then?" came an older voice from in front of the trio belonging to someone they assumed they were just going to pass on the street.

"Mom?!" Alexus's eyes widened the instant she recognized the voice and figure who had stopped in front of them, and she wasn't alone.

"¡Mi hermosa hija!" the second older woman beamed. "Here you are!"

"Madre!?" Mercedes had a similar reaction as neither of them had expected to run into their mothers that day.

"Oh, wow!" Mazda's eyes lit up. "Are these Mommy's mommy and Aunt Merc's big sister?" She didn't understand Spanish.

"We came to visit and your boyfriend told us you were out on the town, Alexus," Chevelle explained, "Did I 'ear you right in this child calling you her mum?!"

"¡Que linda!" Miata took a good look at Mazda. "Look, Chevelle, she has your eyes."

"Alexus, I can't believe you never told me!" Chevelle looked both angry and hurt while still managing to hold her composure at the same time. "Time and time again, I've asked if you were okay or needed help with anything. But for your boyfriend to get you pregnant and you flee back to Bruiser 'ill to give birth to and raise this child away from her father?!"

"Ma, calm down!" Alexus cut in. "You're losing your stiff upper lip!"

"She's right, amiga," Miata assisted. "Let's hear Alexus's side before you jump to conclusions."

"I say, I did begin to lose myself for a moment, there," Chevelle took a deep breath. "Cheers to you, Miata."

"(Only Madre can get through to Alexus's mom at times like this,)" Mercedes thought to herself.

"This is a bit complicated and I still don't understand it myself," Alexus started, "but take a good look at this child. How old does she look?"

"Going on 10, I'd say," Chevelle guessed.

"And how long ago was it you first 'introduced' yourself to Dyne when you caught us ?"

"It couldn't 'ave been more than four or so years now. 'old on a moment, are you saying you adopted this child? But she looks so much like you."

"That's where it makes my head hurt: Her name's Mazda and she is mine and Dyne's child from an alternate timeline where we got married. Something happened there and she ended up here. It's hard to explain, Ma, but I knew right away that she was my baby even though I've never been pregnant. Even though only Dyne adopted her with his other girls he's taken in, she's the reason I decided to stay here."

"That does sound like a tale from a fictional story," Chevelle raised a hand to her chin in thought. "I'd say I'd 'ave a hard time believing you if this child wasn't standing right before us."

"I was shocked too, Mrs. Montgomrey," Mercedes added. "But Lex is telling the truth."

"You two 'ave 'ad your fair share of trouble growing up, but I know you've never been a liar, Mercedes. What do you have to say about all of this, child?" Chevelle looked directly at Mazda.

"Nice to meetcha, Gramma!" Mazda flashed her winning smile. "You too, Big Sis Miata!"

"'Gramma?'" Chevelle began to become even more flustered than before, but not out of anger. "Blimey! She's right! I'm a grandmother now..." She raised a hand to pretend to adjust her glasses, but failed to hide some forming tears of happiness.

"(Wait, I'm still Aunt Merc and Madre is Big Sis?!)" Mercedes thought as suddenly began to feel old.

"(Looks like I finally have a secret weapon to use against you, Ma,)" Alexus thought as she grinned to herself.

"¡Felicidades, Alexus!" Miata beamed. "You can tell us more about this when we get home. You too, Mercedes. Congratulations on your own upcoming wedding!"

"Wedding?!" Mercedes's face flushed upon hearing that word. "Madre, where did you get that idea?"

"Oh, your friend sent me the most adorable photos of you modeling a rather daring wedding dress that truly highlights your beautiful figure." Miata pulled out her phone and showed Mercedes an email containing some familiar photos and the word, "Soon."

"¡¿Leslea, por qué hiciste eso?!" Mercedes's eyes and mouth shot wide open and her face turned as red as her hair while her momentary shock caused her to lapse into full Spanish.

"I do hope it is that nice young man who I met that one time," Miata smiled. "You always did have love in your eyes whenever you spoke about him."

"¡Madre, tenemos que hablar!" Mercedes began pushing Miata down along the road back towards Dyne's boarding campus so they could find a place to converse in private. Alexus and Mazda began to follow suit, with Mazda taking one of Chevelle's hands with her now-free one.

One thing they failed to notice, however, was somebody else who had been tailing them had heard everything.

"(So, he finally made his move?)" she thought. "(I still owe him one. That just means it's time to invoke the 'Until death do you part' clause a little early.)"
