This movie and the main actress have a lot of heart. The plot was objectively quite simple, it was the characters that brought it to life.

I also thought the message was great. It wasn't just "being homeless is bad, pity her." The main character had something internal to overcome as well as her circumstances.

I appreciated how the mom was flawed but not evil. What she said to Amber in the truck stuck with me, because in the moment I agreed but by the end of the movie, I think she was 100% wrong. I know exactly how she feels and it's the depression talking - you can't be happy, things will never be the same, life is too difficult. I think she was a mirror to show us what Amber's life could be like without a support system, without letting people in. The reference to her favorite poem, also ironic.

It's just such a carefully crafted film.

My only complaint is not knowing the ending would be missing that piece I was expecting. I think it actually drove home for me this secondary message: you never know when it's the last time
