Description I have a test for you
one simple life measure
can you stand to be alone
away from all that you treasure?

Can your fragile mind
handle solitude?
A break from all the texts
and the insta-update news?

How long before you snap
and rely on your self for conversation?
How long will you last
this anti-social demonstration?

There is a whole lengthy diatribe on the psychological disadvantages of isolation, but I'm a bit too lazy to get into. Short answer: No one can handle being alone for too long, it's simply not in our nature.

And yes, another good poem.

Yeah for sure, very right. That's why the idea of this challenge interests me. Because, yeah, obviously in the end no one could 'win' and be isolated forever. But in our modern society of practically excessive human contact, how long could most of us even handle reasonably? A few days? A week? A month? I have an idea that to truly be comfortable with yourself you should be able to handle some unknown value of solitude, and I think it's an interesting idea to explore :]

Thank you!

Taking steps away from technology? I'm half and half on that. On the one hand it's great being able to reach people who you wouldn't be able to talk to otherwise, but we are getting disturbingly dependent on technology. Most people would, sadly, only be able to handle about three days or so. It's not so much being comfortable with yourself though, it's more like comfort with solitude. In today's society most people view "Loners" as freaks and/or druggies. Being alone is not only a test of withstanding your own company, but withstanding judgement of others.
