Following in his late father's footsteps, Kazuo Matsushima enlists into the Japanese Imperial Army, leaving behind his mother and his beloved fiancée as he sets sail for the Philippines with the mission to liberate the country from the Americans and bring honor to Japan and to his family.
Meanwhile, after a Japanese air raid in their hometown of Baguio City, Philippines, Juanita Cazatela and her family move to Manila, only to flee again from Japanese cruelty. In the same peninsula, Kazuo battles with his own fate in a bid to uphold his honor and principles: a task made difficult by sin and treachery. Now a prisoner of guerillas, he must fight for survival, seek for atonement, and struggle against a love forbidden by times.
