Devon wasn’t quite sure what to expect by introducing his prized Nudari to his first ever Garcia Cheetah. The idea of a domesticated cheetah to begin with was wild, and knowing that the cat he had gotten his hands on wasn’t even public friendly made him nervous. For the meeting, he was able to talk his friend, Emma, into helping him. The idea was they were going to take the two animals into the Black Hills for a hike, but instead of going together, they’d stagger their paths so that the animals wouldn’t be able to see each other, but could smell each other.

Of course, being a cheetah, Deadwood was much larger than Con. This was daunting by itself, so Devon offered to be the one who walked Deadwood and he would go first onto the hiking trail. Before unloading Deadwood from his truck, Devon made his way over to Emma and her SUV to fill her in on the plan. He pet Con through the open window as he explained that he would be going up the trail first and that she and Con should follow after 15 to 20 minutes. Giving Deadwood and himself enough time to get out of eyesight.

“Sounds easy enough. Con and I get along pretty well.” Emma stated as she unloaded her hiking gear from the back of her SUV. When the brunette finished packing her backpack and grabbing everything she needed for Con, she set her backpack on the ground by her rear tire and pressed the button to lower her hatch door.

Devon nodded and made his way back to his truck. He made sure that Con could see Deadwood and that Deadwood could see Con, but that they couldn’t do more. Grabbing his backpack and throwing it over his shoulders, Devon leaned into the truck and clipped the leash to the back of Deadwood’s harness.

“Let’s go.”

As they reached an open clearing, the sun was beginning to rise above the Black Hills on the horizon. Devon decided this was where he would wait for Con and Emma to show up. He sat down, calmly stroking Deadwood’s fur as the large feline sprawled out on the grass and showed his belly to his owner.

After just a few minutes, apparently walking much faster than Devon had anticipated, Emma and Con appeared in the clearing. Immediately Deadwood sat up and locked eyes with the stoic canine approaching. Deavon grabbed a hold of the cheetah’s leash and stood behind him calmly as his friend and his dog approached. To his surprise, both animals curiously sniffed each other, but otherwise showed no displays of aggression. Relief washed over Devon as he carefully got down between the two and rubbed between their ears.

“I think you two are going to get along great.”
