Description Here are two of my favorite old school video game heroes Headdy and Ristar. These two have a lot in common, besides both being in some cool games for the Sega Genesis they also both use their heads as weapons!

Enjoy.

Oh, shi-- I remember these two characters from their respective games on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. I've never beat them, though. The final boss in Ristar has ALWAYS beaten me the exact same way, and the difficulty level of Dynamite Headdy in the later levels was fucking insane. It doesn't help that Sega of America decided to remove 80% of the storyline from the original Japanese version of Dynamite Headdy, either (although the Japanese ROM has been translated into English a while back).

Yep, as much as I enjoyed both of those games I never beat either of them, they were pretty tough.

I heard about all the changes made to Headdy and I really don't see why they felt the need to do that. It's like American game companies didn't think kids in the U.S. would enjoy it or something. It's that kind of thinking that gave us this cover for Mega Man 1 in the states [link] instead of the original [link]

To be fair about Dynamite Headdy, though, it was a pretty bizarre video game that never stopped to remind the player that he/she is playing a puppet show. I assume SOA thought the puppet theme was a little too weird for American audiences. Ristar was also heavily altered by SOA. The main difference was that the majority of the enemies were redesigned to look meaner.

DH has a hidden boss battle in the game where you take on a parody of the Sega Enterprises president at the time, Hayao Nakamura, as well as his executives. If you've never got that far, you can watch the video on YouTube.
