Description
I made this of 3 reasons:- the common use of “Vati” in fanfics and fanarts... (I don't like it in Austrias lips... it's not used)
- Austria was Celtic and a Roman Province back then, called Noricum. Germanic people came to Austria much more later
- Austria is surly pretty much proud of the fact that Vienna was founded by Romans xD

We just use “Papa”, “Vati” sounds really weird. But it's used in some parts of North Germany, so I'm ok if Prussia and Germany are using it. But for Austria (and South Germany) it sounds really strange.

Wegen der Begrifflichkeiten: Vati ist ja die Verniedlichung von Vater und Papa kann man ja auch zu Papi machen. Klar ist das für uns die Niedlichkeitsform, aber das wissen viele ja nicht bzw. so weit ich informiert bin war altnordisch der Begriff doch faðir, althochdeutsch fater. Passt daher schon irgendwie, aber genau weiß ich das auch nicht. ^^°
So weit ich das privat mitbekommen habe sagen sie im Norden auch Papa wir bei uns im Süde O.o

Hi! just a question, is it uncommon to use 'Vati' to call dad in modern days? and if not, what's the words commonly used nowadays in Germany and Austria to call mom and dad? : D

It depends on where you live. In South Germany (I am from Bavaria) and Austria it's very uncommon to use "Vati". We say "Papa".

*nodsnods* I absolutely agree on all three points and want to add that it's the same thing for Bavaria (except the one point about Vienna of course). My parents would not be happy if I started calling them "Vati" and "Mutti" all of a sudden.
