Here is my finished portrait of Castiel
If I'm correct the original screen cap is from the episode "On the Head of a Pin"Anyways, I'm pretty happy with how this turned out, and considering this took me around... 7 or 8 hours, I better be happy with it!

I think that this picture is a definite success. I looked at the step by step, and I enjoy your finished product better than the original photo. The reason is that there's a sort of 'cleanness' to it that the original photo could never achieve. The portrait that you have made is so much more intense to me, especially the eyes. I think it has to do with lighting, also. Fantastic job on getting the original photo spot-on. The details are fantastic. I really enjoy the shading of the lips, eyes, folds in under the eyes, etc. The stubble on his face is also excellent. I've gotta say that my favorite part is his coat, though. It looks so awesome the way you shaded it. It looks REALLY good. Folds in clothing are super tricky. The only thing I saw that could use a little tweaking was the shading on the forehead, but that's minor. This is a great piece. Congrats. Your digital art is getting better by the submission.

But otherwise, thank you so much for noticing all the little things, and I very pleased that you find this painting better than the original. 
I think the coat is also my favorite part of the painting, it was simple, and I thoroughly enjoyed painting it because of it's simplicity, but yet the importance it played in the image.
