Renewable energy is nice, but has a long way to go. We need to store it in times the sun is not shining or the wind is not blowing. The best renewable energy at the moment is water based renewable energy, because it is the most continues(it can provide and generate power 24/7).
The main drawbacks of wind energy is the heavy investments, servicing of the unit and extreme horizon view pollution. Another drawback is that it can only operate between certain windspeeds. Ideal is to place them off shore, where the wind is almost always blowing and almost no people can see them. The drawback is that the placing and servicing of the units becomes more costly and the more salt environment needs to be taken into account.
The ideal solution is that there is a lot of water based energy for the continues power delivery, like a power dam, river generators or tidal flow generators in combination with local energy producers in the form of solar panels on houses, with the houses having a battery to store the energy they produce.
