I really like the concept. And I thin khaving the one red leaf is fantastic. I think the red leaf would stand out more and make more of an impact if you were to get rid of the yellowed parts of the rest of the leaves. Make them green like the main part of the leaf, etc.. and the red leaf will pop more.

It was more to do with insidous, discreet poisoning, than "Boo! A Red Leaf!", so I didn't want it to stand out too much, but I know what you mean.
