I liked the original TV anime, which did a great job of adapting the manga. It would have been nice if the studio for the OVAs had done a better production job, but they did OK for a bridge. The main problem was that during the down period the manga concluded, so a lot of impetus is off. That being said, if there was an OVA or TV anime that proceeded with the rest of the story it would be awesome. Once I began to read the manga past the anime's stopping point, it was obvious that was only the warm-up! The story had a good time and built Kenichi up, while not falling into any of the usual shounen manga ruts.Β

I would accept a reboot if it meant the anime would run its course...which would mean about 150 episodes. Easily. Without a single filler arc! As a dedicated Rumiko Takahashi fan in the days of old, it was great to see a disciple step forward and carry on.

Well, the manga editors told him if the series was to really succeed, he had to put some female characters with appeal in it. So he rebooted the story and added appeal!Β Β Β

Sort of like having Fred Perry & Rumiko Takahashi collaborate on a martial arts action comedy, y'know. Pure gold, with more bounce to the ounce! Β And every story arc added one or two more beauties to the lineup... Now, to the fangirls currently goingΒ Β over this tribute, we should duly note that every story added a nice slab of beef to to go with the original Norse-themed steak sandwich served with the cheesecake.Β

Speaking of which, the Danmachi OAV got fan-subbed recently & looks great. Story + service is always nice, although service got a bit more this time. Also a 12-part anime featuring the story of Bel's dream girl Aizu will be out in a month!Β
