My entry for Taron's "Natives of the Lifeless Forest" Challenge at CGHub.com . Feel free to check it out if you enjoy participating in contests. There are a lot of really wonderful WIP's posted in the forums there.The usual. Start to finish in Photoshop. I used this image by *SenshiStock as a ref for the dead guy's feet. That's what's great about this piece. It's disturbing, but you just can't stop staring. It's so gorgeous! I envy your talent with textures and stuff.
I feel so sad for that poor dead guy... His outfit is way cool. It makes me want to learn more about him! HUge fan of your work.

I feel really sad for the warrior. This is a great piece, very beautiful. I love the detail you put into it and the larvae eating the guy. He looks like a prince ^_^

I love the sense of depth you've created in the upper half of the piece and the rusty orange gives me shivers (I have a fondness for that specific color)
I wish the piece was bigger or that you had more detail shots (I want to get a closer look). And though part of the piece's allure is lack of background information. It would really be sweet if you had a few sentences to augment the work.
I think giving people something to grasp hold of would intrigue them more so than just the piece itself.

I was kinda confused for a little bit until I refreshed my comments that night but didn't get the chance to respond until today. Though it was cool to hear about that one could I still bug you for a little info on 'fly with me'?
I understand what you mean- I normally post with a little bit of background (everything I post is kinda old- like by at least 3-5 weeks and beforehand in my class and life in general I don't explain ANYTHING

Hmm, there isn't much to tell with this one either. Honestly, I don't usually come up with fully fleshed stories for my paintings. I mostly just do them for the visuals.
But the theme for the contest was Natives of the Lifeless Forest. So the little Fly Girl is sitting with a dead warrior and enjoying his company. And meanwhile, her little larvae friends (who will eventually grow up to be flies like her) snack on the poor guy.
I don't know if the guy just wandered into the Lifeless Forest and died. Or if the Fly Girl lured him in. I never did decide on that.

I just added a few details. (Link is in my comments.) There's not much to show though. If there's a specific spot you want to see, let me know.
As for background information, I usually don't post much about that, and I have my reasons. The main one is that I believe a piece of art should be able to stand on its own. And I try to tell as much of a story as I can with just the visuals. If I withhold info on the background, I can read people's reactions to the pic and find out whether or not I was successful in accomplishing my goal. But if I told people the background info from the start, I wouldn't know if I pulled it off visually or not. Other reasons I don't write much background info are because I'm lazy, and I often really don't have much info to tell.
As for this piece, the theme was for the art jam, so I didn't come up with that. I just wanted to do a variation in which the maiden wasn't submissive. The two of them are in love, but it's a mutually destructive love. When they touch, the maiden starts to die, and Death starts to come alive (not a good thing for Death). The maiden is the one to initiate contact in this instance since Death is afraid to do so. That's about it. Pretty sketchy, and not much of a story. But my pics often don't really have stories to them. Just vague situations.

I really love this, which is unusual since I often do not enjoy this themes. But the composition and the color pallet is so beautiful. Fantastic work really. I wish it was a bit higher res though hehehe!
