Major Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell. Sorta. I took some liberties. And obviously, it's not done in the style or tone of the movies. I always feel vaguely weird about categorizing my fanart as anime art since I don't think my style is particular anime-ish. Oh well. Did this one to play around with light sources.The figure was sketched and colored in Photoshop. No references used. The background is a manipulated photograph I took of a parking garage. Total time about 3-4 hours.
EDIT: D'oh, yeah, the neck does look really weird. I fixed it up a little bit. It's still on the long side, but hopefully doesn't look quite so strange. Thanks to everyone who pointed that out.

She needs a break from the anime look some time. You did very, very well here. I love the uniqueness, and I always preferred her movie look over the series look, due to the rough realism.

I enjoy your alteration of the style, and I think the lighting does well to accent the uncertainty and darkness within the characters thoughts, in movie one at least. It's a truly impressive effort, and I am surprised that not as many people have realized this fact as well and faved it.

I agree with Ukitakumuki on the background, very good light effects on the structures behind her.
I wouldn't be afraid to take liberties with the character of Kusanagi, every artist should have their own style to play with.

Gotta love the dark shadows and bits of lighting casting onto her--very COOL. And I really REALLY like the detail work on the fence. Very well-done--MUST fav, obviously

the bg is beautiful.. there are certain descrepancies that i dislike thoroughly, that being the (sloppier than even my sketches) smudgy orange overall she has (which i dig, though not this particular render)... and her neck, which i find too long and thin. Shadows cast cause her form to loose alot of desired shape, perhaps some backlighting may have helped ?
Crit aside, i think its a fabulous arrangement, a very worthy fanart that can grace the centerfolds of any game magazine imho.
