If you are looking for water proof pens, go with copics. Their black pens come with a large range of sizes (my personal favorite being a 0.3). They at least my preferred for watercolor, though there are a few other brands that are equally suitable.

I actually think it's absolutely fine, I mostly think it looks like water-colour rather then pen & ink.

seriously I enjoy the lines on the head whiskers and the back fin. thought they turned so beautifully, i didnt even notice the pens bursting from their edges from the water.
