In Montana October was mostly fair. Of course, I had to get hike out in the dark to get this picture, and I was alone.Related content

It was definitely worth the hike. The color contrasts are amazing and would be completely impossible to find in the day time.

I'd never seen such amazing color before. Even after the sun was many minutes gone and darkness had taken hold, there were these strange red lumps around. I realized that they were the white rocks catching the last bits of red that were still somehow lit in a horizon mostly blocked by trees.

Some drug dealers chopped up a high school kid when I was in it, and they fed him to the bears by a lake at which I used to fish.
