Description This lovely piece is one I commissioned from the absolutely amazingly talented CherryInTheSun . She is a wonderful artist to deal with; very patient and kind, with a lot of great perks on her Patreon page. I hope you will check out her many great works!

Recon Ranger Hilda is an OC of mine from my Zenketsu book series. The series is set in a future that is somewhat frozen in time from modern times, with a few advancements. However, various things shape the world and the characters, and Hilda is one of my favorite and most prominent characters in the series.

Even though firearms are present in this world, Hilda very much prefers her bow. When she was four years old, she was given a hand-made wooden bow made on the spot just for her by the mysterious man known as Mr. Monte. She immediately developed a childhood crush on  him, which drove her to pursue archery with a passion. When she was 8, she began entering competitions -and winning-. Each year, the grand prize was presented by Mr. Monte, and each year, young Hilda won the competition with the intent of confessing to him. But, when it came time for her to receive her reward, she froze, unable to say what she so longed to say. And, so it went, year by year, until she was fourteen, when the grand prize was a hand-carved, beautiful wooden bow (beautifully depicted by CherryInTheSun here). This was also the year when Hilda would follow in her mother's footsteps and join the Recon Rangers, the soldier-scouts tasked with finding resources around the City of Ciel, tracking enemy movements, and serving as a militia force in a world where the city saw no need for a formal military.

Years later, Hilda still uses the same wooden bow, and while her childhood crush never really faded, she has become one of the most outgoing and free-thinking characters in the stories. She's one of my best fighters, but she's also often the comic relief (especially with sex-humor), the mother figure to the main character (and a Mama-bear at that), and just a heavily rounded and loyal soldier.

I often compare Hilda to archery what Wild West gunslingers were to revolvers; artists. While this was kind of a generalization until very recently, Hilda could be considered a female Robin Hood as far as archery goes. She'll do ridiculous shots at times that seem to rely as much on her skill as luck, or she'll incapacitate a group of people within seconds. She's also a whimsical drunk, and she becomes belligerently affectionate to her friends when she does. She's also never afraid to join a Ranger brawl and throw down in some friendly-ish fisticuffs.

Anyways, CherryInTheSun captured Hilda wonderfully in my opinion, so please show her some love if you like this picture!
