MANY, MANY QUESTIONS.
okay if there's anything stupid here, please excuse me. ^^'
so first, how did you get that effect ont he paper, where the edges are blue? did you dip it into inked water or somthing?
also, i'm assuming that you dotted up the tail and the shadow with marker and then just dripped water onto it, but how'd you control the water so it didn't blotch all over the place?
also, how did you make the shadow? it seems like it was made before you drew the actual mermaid but not sure how you'd get the positioning and such (but there's sketching with a pencil, of course. ^^')

another questions (sorry 'botu so many) how did you do the hair color before outlining? it seems to be done in the same way as the shadow, only you manage to alternate the strands between black and a reflective color like water would do.

first. there's no watercolor cause i hate it. It was all color pencils and kneaded eraser.
2nd: for drawings like like this one the object always comes first then the shadow.
3rd the positioning, it depends on which is the most shaded part of your object, that is where the shadow should be. then the distance of the shadow from the object is all up to you... just try to keep the distance the same from start to finish. The shape of the shadow must look closely the same with your object.
4th , I outlined it first then color. Imagine where the light touches and the areas that are'nt. play with the colors
