Description Tsurara-onna (つらら女): Tsurara-onna, literally means "Icicle Woman", is a type of yokai who appears in winter and is often confused with Yuki-onna (See also Chapter I: Yuki-onna (Snow woman) ). The differences between them are; Yuki-onna is more dangerous and feeds on human's life force but Tsurara-onna looks and behaves more like human, except the fear of heat which can make her return to icicle and melt away. There has many different tales about them. One of the most common tales began with; a man went into mountains in mid-winter and met a beautiful girl. They married and had their own family in the same winter. But what uncommon about his new wife was, she disappeared suddenly in Spring. Without any trace left, he gave up finding her and re-married again with a girl from the village. When the next winter came, he saw his ex-wife appeared in the front of his house. She asked him why he broke their promise and re-married. The wife was saddened and angry because of no answer coming from her husband, so she disappeared in front of him. Suddenly, the icicles which built on the roof fell and pierced the heart of the man. His new wife heard the sound and came out what she saw was the corpse of her husband with the melting icicles.

95% der Japanischen Folklore endet nie happy oder hat ein sehr koemisches Ende. Weiß auch nicht warum. XD
Aber werde versuchen, eine mit happy ending zu finden und hier zu posten.

She is sad and angry because her husband dumped her after she disappeared from Spring to Autumn. Poor girl.

Ah, what a shallow husband. Hmm, husbands are usually punished brutally in these stories, huh? The women are usually vengeful with hardly any happy ending.

This is quite usual in Japanese literature. XD Revenge, furor, tragedy and betrayal...

So beautiful! These are always so gorgeously drawn and painted, my friend!

Poor Tsurara-onna... how her husband got so eager to re-marry so quickly instead of waiting and keep trying to find out more of what could've happened to her. But I guess that's the "moral" of the story here. He totally got what he deserved for being so greedy. TvT

Thank you very much, my friend!
Yes...This story is quite moral one and real. I feel sorry for both of them since the problem is they misunderstand each other. I think marriage should be when both truly understand and believe in the partner. Fast marriage isn't the nice choice. (although there has some exception.) But between human and yokai is even harder since Tsurara-onna can't tell the truth to him (nature's rule) and the man...He re-married a bit too fast but I understand him that he might think his ex-wife dumped him and disappeared...No help.

Oh, true! I hadn't seen it from the man's point of view. Awww, it just gets sadder! That's just how great this story is! ;u;

Oh My Gawd....OMG !!!!!  You're taking Ukiyo-E to a whole new level......  I feel such a deep sympathy to these lost soul who NEVER seem to find peace and love...Once hurt in the first life --- they get hurt again and again...like their curse is repeating itself over and over with no rest from the torment.....Your drawings/paintings...are doing them justice and offering a little comfort in the midst of all the pain....And perhaps love, if it can transcend the worlds..and why not .............

That's what I feel.....

Great Masterclass Art !

Thank you so much for such a compliment! (>v<)
I'm truly happy that you like this pic as well. The story is indeed sad but I think it can't be helped. Both Tsurara-onna and her husband have their own reasons.
Tsurara-onna - Can't be helped since she will disappear when then weather gets warmer just like those icicles. It isn't her wish to suddenly disappear after all.
The Man - He might feel sad and disappointed since her wife disappeared without words. So it makes him think that she dumped him. It's common for guys to find the new wife. Still in a year is way too fast to find a new one ("=.=")
I think the problem is that they misunderstand each other.
