Cardboard?? Really? I use bristol for everything whether or not it's appropriate, but maybe if I ever have the courage to do gouache again I'll try... cardboard!!

Give it a try, I also find that it works pretty well with Conte' crayon. Whith Guache, it seems to keep my whites really bright as well. Wood block works pretty well too.

So, this is a stupid, question, but do you use a special kind of cardboard or just.... boxes and stuff? ^_^;

^.^ Boxes an' stuff (the backs of sketch books usually work really well). You can find some big boxes at wither a post office, or Wal-mart or wherever. Cut it up with a matte cutter and you'll have something to size. Also if you damage the board up before use it gives it some interesting texture.
