Description A self portrait. I almost broke my ankles shooting this.

Day 2:

I did begin the day with a few tears today. I called Centrelink. The man was rather lovely actually.

Him: So what do you want to do next year?
Me: I want to make art but I guess you don't want to pay me for that.
Him: Personally, I would love to give you money for that. But...
Me: Yeah. Should I just have a baby?
Him: Well, we'd still make you look for a job right up until the final months anyway.
Me: Ah. Apparently in Amsterdam they pay you to be an artist.

So we chatted for about forty minutes. I got off the phone. I cried a little then went and did some rehearsal for the cabaret. Spent two hours writing a rather lovely little duologue.

'Sally?'
'Yeah?'
'Tell me a story.'
'What?'
'You used to do it all the time. When we were driving up to visit Grandpa Ted, you would tell stories the entire trip. 450 kilometers. You never ran out of words. I remember wondering if the entire English language belonged to you. I was always quiet after those drives. I didn't think I was entitled to use words after that 450 kilometers.'

I cleaned my sock draw. Then I remembered that today was a 'write the story of your day' day and became very embarrassed that was dull enough to clean my sock draw. I decided to leave the socks out of the write up.

I shot this.

I changed my mind about leaving out the socks.

Three copies of my book ('In Memory of Arthur Who Was Completely Ordinary' [link] ) arrived on my door step. I wrote a dedication in the front of one and went to deliver it to the beautiful Miss ~eckyducky . To My Sarah, with stupid amounts of love and gratitude. We cuddled on her bed. We had icy poles. Very mature. We talked theatre photography. And theatre. And Centrelink. And her mother. I wrote her two of my recipies in her note book. One for tortillas and one for a chickpea curry.

My friend, Gareth, came to my place to collect his copy of my book. He brought champagne. We drunk on the porch with my housemate, Kristina. I smiled a lot. I had forgot to celebrate Arthur's creation properly.

I regretted the champagne when I went out for my jog half an hour later.

Kristina and I went out to see a series of 10 minute plays. 15 of them. One was so bad I had to bite her shoulder. We went to get veggie burgers. At some point, mid-burger, I decided that we would have a silent conversation. I didn't explain to her but she worked out the rules pretty fast. For the next 25 minutes, we confused the teenagers behind the counter by conducting a conversation using only gestures and non-articulate sounds. I talked a lot about Centrelink and the facial hair of the perplexed boys watching us. I haven't a clue what Kristina was talking about it but I loved it.

We came home. I wrote more of the duologue. I wrote this. I fought with my internet to try and post it.

(Sorry that I'm so dull right now! But the silent conversation was pretty rad! I recommend it, if you ever need to spice up a date. Don't bother explaining what you are doing to the other person. They'll love it!)

Tracey Emin wrote thousands of letters to people asking them to sponsor her art. They did. It's worth a shot.

My friends and I often conduct conversations in odd voices. Today I had a perfectly understandable dialogue with my friend Rachel in the voice of a dinosaur. Complete with tiny hand movements. No words were used.

Haha, thanks possum. Just come and see our cabaret in December. That will help get us to Adelaide, at any rate.

This made me smile when I first saw it on my deviants page because we were commenting about how we're both drawn to these, lol. I must say though, the reading wasn't dull. You have a very good way with words whether it's writing about your day or writing any other story.

:Wishes for those recipes!:

Lol... the silent convo sounds great. I actually have a story to share, relating.

I was out for Chinese, around age 16, at about 3pm. Two girls behind me were making gestures at one another, probably similar to what you described. Being considerate, I discreetly worked to not obviously notice. Then I heard words, and was like... ~!!!!

So I turned around from my seat at the bar and walked over, and said, "I'm sorry to interrupt, but I noticed the hand gestures you were making, and though I admittedly don't know sign language WELL, it seemed to me that's what they were. But I've heard both of you speaking too... so neither of you are deaf I take it?"

This last was spoken with no small degree of caution and humility... I've been known to stick my foot in mouth repeatedly.

Turns out they were students of sign language at the local college, and I was invited to dine with them and some friends the following evening, which turned out to be a blast.

Anyway... yeah. Neat.

Why am I suddenly the one to go to for recipes? *is confused* I don't follow recipes so this is made up but it is a ridiculously easy one.

Chop an onion. Fry it in olive oil or ghee until golden brown. Add a fair bit of garlic. Add spices... try cummin, coriander seeds, turmeric and a curry powder of some description (I make my own spice mixes every year and never remember what I've put in them). Grate some fresh ginger.

Add a can of chick peas. (Our cans are 400grams, I'm not sure about yours.) They will take a while to soften. Add a little chili and salt and pepper to taste. Chop something green and leafy (spinach, silverbeet, etc).

When the chickpeas are soft, turn off the stove and stir in 200grams of fresh, plain, low fat yogurt.

I usually serve this on flat bread with either a dhal or a Middle Eastern tomato sauce.

Sounds a grand episode! Our gestures weren't sign, just the gestures you might have to punctuate words in normal conversation. Just eh words were missing. As a theatre practitioner, I'm obsessed with gestures. They are fascinating!

Because, you're bragging about food, that's why! Besides, I'm always looking for foreign cuisine to try my hand at. Thanks! I'll let you know how it goes... just need to wiki what a "dhal" is.

It was quite an experience. I realized your gestures weren't rooted in actual language, but I reckon that both scenarios would have appeared rather similar to me; if it had been you I had witnessed, I'd have assumed it was sign language or something along those lines... considering I don't know enough sign language to be able to identify it properly.

Still, very interesting.

Why won't they pay you to take art?!

Haha, I must say, Australia doesn't have much 'Australian cuisine'. We are a country of immigrants and our food reflects that. I'm amazed you don't know what dhal is! It is such a fabulous staple.

To take art? I've finished studying. Now I want money to make it.

Ah.

Is freelancing an option?

Well that's what I'll be doing. But without money it will be very tough.

Ah... I guess what I meant was, "Is freelancing an option," as in, "Will some of the contacts you've established over the years such as your private modelling referrals and photo shoots, allow you to freelance for the kind of cash you're looking to make?"

Making money sucks; it being necessary, sucks; pretty much everything about money sucks. Too bad the world is driven by it.
