Description My Entry for the Freddy Krueger Contest

I wanted to depict Freddy at a pivotal point in his career as a multi-dimensional ripper.
So here he is, living through his last moments as a mortal soul, before starting his campaign of deadly nightmares as a demon reborn.

This started out as a very detailed pencil drawing which was then scanned and repainted in PS. I have left some of the original pencil marks in the final render as I feel its adds to the mood of the image.

No refrence except for a pic of Robert's eye

Nicely done and great improvement! A lot more tasteful - plus it looks more finished than the other piece. Especially like what you've done with the background. Keep up the good work, mate!

Oh damn, what a crazy damn painting! It is very well done, has great details and colors. My mini crit for you is only that you could have worked more his hands, give thema bit more of details.

Ty for your feedback. Much appreciated!
I was torn between over-detailing the hands and drawing attention away from the face vs leaving the hands bland and boring.
As far as the composition goes, the main reason for the position of the hands is the lead the eye into the focus point of the face.
The values of the hands were also subdued by leaving them mostly in shadow.
I do however agree with you and feel that they could have done with a bit more refining. Finding that perfect balance is def. something I need to work on.

I understand your point, thanks for sharing! The balance is very dificult to fin yes, but soomeday you may come with it. I like the composition as it is

halohunter In reply to apeman80 [2010-09-19 07:28:26 +0000 UTC]

ty for the feedback.
I did think quite a bit about how much I wanted to refer to the existing image of Freddy vs my own interpretation of the persona.
I feel that "Freddy" is more than just one actor's portrayal of some fantastic creation, so I did not want my Freddy to resemble Robert too closely.
I have also tried to portray him a little younger than in the movies and gave him a really bad mullet
Of course there is the obvious facial distortion on the the right side of his face, but if you block that off and just view the left side, I think you will see a closer resemblance to Mr. Englund.

Interesting That You think that Dispite The burns He got From the Fire that killed him, You depict Him Tearing His own Face apart. It's an interesting Thought And Other explaination for the Pizza Like Sores & on his Face.

It Might explain Why the Damage on his Arms & Legs Don't Look at Bad as the damage on His Head & Torso. It was by his Own hand.

Again, You DO Bring up a Very interesting theroy about the Look of his Face.
Well done!

Hiya, tyvm for your insight and feedback.
I've been a Freddy fan since I saw the artwork for the original movie poster.
Back then I thought he was one hell of a scary guy, but with each new movie he seemed to loose some of that intensity.
I wanted to 'get under his skin' and reveal some of the madness that lurked there.
The tearing of his own flesh is partly symbolic of his inner conflict, and his utter frustration of having his life's work cut short.
But it is also a sign of things to come. Like snake shedding it's skin or a caterpillar emerging from it cocoon, Freddy is freeing himself from this mortal coil, in anticipation of his demonic reincarnation.
