Wow! this is fantastic man - thanks for sharing! I'm not sure i want to ask how long it took to render .... what renderer did you use in Max?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Hameed In reply to Regulus36 [2011-05-28 20:45:26 +0000 UTC]

Hehe i lost track of how long after a while, it was a loong time though, mostly in photoshop, the max stuff was pretty standard, 4 spheres plus the multitude of maps, and rendered with mental ray.

That's pretty in-fucking-credible, all the better that you've chosen to provide it as stock, you should sell the Max file on Turbosquid or something.

mp5gosu [2011-05-27 14:19:56 +0000 UTC]

Mh, actually, it is not 6k. It's a blown up LoRes. Not even 2k I guess.
For bigger resolutions than yours, goto [link]
There you'll find a wide variety of earth textures.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Hameed In reply to mp5gosu [2011-05-27 16:04:20 +0000 UTC]

The textures i used are modified versions of the 8K ones shown here: [link] I have been a Celestia user for a very long time, long enough to know that all the cloud maps there are from the same source as mine, and i am aware that the ones you have cared to point out are available. I don't need to do 'blow ups' of low res images, and though i can understand that you don't like the image, saying that this is in fact a 2k image is quite frankly ridiculous.

Fantastic! perhaps the only person I've seen do better is *hoevelkamp but he's set the planet bar really high for all of us anyway. You need to look at movies from as little as 5 or 10 years ago and even some of them don't have a representation of Earth as natural-looking as this (excluding straight out of NASA images of a whole, real Earth which is often recognizable ) The fine bumps in the clouds and effect of light decay add a lot

Hameed In reply to Chromattix [2011-05-27 16:17:32 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, i am a huge fan of *hoevelkamp he does do some amazing planet's.
