i think you will find that the flow was out of taupo as the lake is the creator of the volcano that is the north island of NZ

yes it was but this is from a vent just off the lake ,was a huge eruption too from the size of the lake that was a mountain

if you look at the geographic of the north island, most of the island is the Mountain.
