Description The center piece (katsuyama kanzashi) maiko wear in May is often the beautiful wisteria (fuji 藤). I made this hair pin from scratch for a custom order for a maiko henshin (cosplay) for a lovely customer.

You can see the matching sagari kanzashi , and the two pieces together here:
This was my first time making a wisteria bridge! It's quite difficult, but fun. I hope I can get a chance to make a second one.

Similar to my other wisteria:

That is a nice description! Yes, like ones that they grow in the parks over benches.

I wanted to go see them so badly when I saw all the pics from Japan this year.>< We had Wysteria at my school so I remember the smell all too well.

If she does post her photos somewhere, I'll let you all know.    I also love seeing kanzashi worn!

Thank you! It was a fun experiment, seeing how small/big to make the individual strands. it took a long time, but I'm glad the result is worth it.

It looks so complex and time consuming.... I can see where it would really take a long time to make! But it looks so beautiful

yep, this whole set took 28 hours and 15 minutes. Or, about that. I might have forgotten to write down bits... (I've been making it over a month...) I timed it to see how long it'd take! timing = hard. I forget to push the start button on my phone and have to try and remember when I started...

I'm glad it looks nice though.   I think I wouldn't mind making it again.  I bet I could streamline the process and take less time. @.@ And perhaps get feedback from my customer on the size. I don't have a maiko wig... she's making hers!! I'm seriously impressed.

Wow, that is a long time to be folding and glueing silk!

Yeah usually making things for a second time takes les time than it did the first go around, because you have that muscle memory and experience working in your favor. A handmade maiko wig? Dang, hat's some serious dedication!

Haha, actually only half that time is folding/gluing. The other half is wiring, stringing, etc. the armature isn't as simple as most of my kanzashi, so yeah, that's part of where all the time went.

Yep, she is seriously dedicated. I don't think I could do it!
