Description Bright flowers for spring! these are some of my more imaginative flowers-- bright or patterned fabrics done into orchid shapes because a friend of mine likes orchids...and I cannot resist making a variety.

I actually made these a while ago, but I have been behind on cropping/editing photos...nevertheless, you can see another example of upcycled kimono silk. the project continues.

Yeah, I actually really like kimono fabric as bobby-pins. it's useful, too, because the samples don't usually come with a lot of negative space? So there isn't a lot of solid-color to work with, which is kind of necessary if I'm making a bigger piece.   well, sometimes it's necessary...though not always. Yeah. It depends.

Interested in making kanzashi (tsumami zaiku) yourself? Feel free to visit our deviantART group to hear more about Ariel Loh's book, to which I am a contributor-- our project is to invite more people to make silk flowers using this technique.

They are all lovely but my favorites are the right one at the bottom and the four going right to left above it. They are the prettiest.

The ones I mentioned would make a lovely bridge. Sayuri would wear something like that.

I see some sparkly fabrics!!!! (or at least they look sparkly in the picture). I recently had a conversation with a cashier as I went to buy black glittery nail polishes and she said that they are an interesting color, even though lack color and then she said "well, it sparkles, and sparkle counts as a color, right?" and she was so right.

Sparkle is def. a color. And you're workin it.

Oooh, I love this anecdote! yep, sparkle is definitely a color.

Hehe, you're also right-- the purple has sparkle in it, and much of the others have gold fleck! Good eye, as ever.
