Description So, it's been a while since I've done this design. This time I'm using vintage kimono fabric (Right), and kimono fabric samplers (the bit they keep at kimono shops in Japan to show you the pattern). This means I won't be able to remake these designs...they'll be one of a kind. that's the fun part about using kimono silk!

Another thing about kimono silk-- there is so much detail. The pattern spreads all across the fabric, so it makes for a uniquely patterned flower. The effect isn't organic, like some of my hand dyed pieces, but uniquely interesting....it reminds me of Van Gogh's Ukiyo E (浮世絵 in oil painting!! What a fun combination).

So, yes, those of you watching my  journals, etc-- it looks like the book project will continue on the linked website for the time being. We're regrouping to see how to continue from here; more info as I have it! I'll update a journal entry every now and again to keep you updated-- but for now, just keep an eye out. And know that we're not giving up!!

The fabrics are really beautiful and I like the flowers a lot.
Though I think these shidare would be more beautiful if the tails would be made of a more simple cloth not taking the focus of attention away from the flowers itself.

thank you! I like the fabric a lot too.
I see what you mean. Ordinarily, with kimono fabric there are large swatches of fabric that are solid in color-- but sometimes the sample swatches they have for sale (e.g. these fabric swatches) only gives me the patterned bit. There's not enough solid color... If I had all of my undyed silk with me (and the dyes for them) I could probably color-match...but this year my goal is to use as much fabric as possible, and I have limitted silk. I'll see if I can keep your words in mind though.

Yep! I'm trying to use up as much kimono fabric as I can. ^^ de-stashing is fun! I just need more time to make more things.
