A painted page from Sonic the Comic. The strip was written by Nigel Kitching - the robots owe a lot to Miyazaki's 'Laputa' (Castle in the Sky). The criminal gang were created by me to look as visually diverse as possible.Related content

Makes sense to draw inspiration from Castle in the Sky considering the games already did with the floating island (and possibly even that pirates' husband who sort of looks like Robotnik in it), haha.
Always loved the designs of those robots. Of course back when I read this I hadn't even heard of Laputa yet, I wish Miyazaki's films had been readily available when I was a kid but I've caught up on them all now.

Laputa was the only film I knew by Miyazaki for years and that was only because Nigel had recorded it off the telly at some obscure time and gave me a copy.
The floating island in Gulliver's Travels predates any of these of course!
