Description Tumblr: [link]
I will be posting sketches, works in progress and misc things on Tumblr with only my best works on DA. I will also be answering any questions or requests for tutorials there

My second Copic piece, this one took around 1 hour
I'm still getting used to copics but I hope that you enjoy her!

I think that I really do have an obsession with roses! I like this character a lot - I haven't named her yet and I like the BG, G and RV series of colours in the copic ciao 72A set.

1st Copic Piece

Need to improve on: Smoother lineart

During the process:
-I nearly broke my 0.03 multiliner because my hand was pressing down to hard and was shaking
-After doing a few mistakes in the colouring and lineart, I reached for my keyboard to find Ctrl+Z but I forgot that I was on my normal desk with a traditional piece xD

Tools: Copic ciao
Copic multiliner
Copic Pad A4

thankyou Copics are very fun to work with and I find that they take less time than digital artworks. The brush strokes are also more controlled but what I'm finding very hard is for a smooth lineart.

Is it very expensive? And do I need many colours of it to make skin f.e?

haneiy In reply to Hikaru-Amuto-fan [2011-11-04 21:16:26 +0000 UTC]

copics are fairly expensive. I got the copic ciao 72A marker set online and it cost around $250 including shipping. It's approx $4-$6 for a ciao and I wouldn't pay more than $6.
What I use for skin is E00 for the base, E02 for light shading and E04 for darker shadows. I sometimes use R02 for rosy cheek effects. I usually do skin as a very light tone so even E00 is a bit dark for me so I am getting E000 and E0000 as well as R00. it really depends on what kind of skin you'd like but I recommend getting E000, E00, E02 and E04 for common skin colour and maybe R00 and R02 if your colouring is slightly pinkish. I hope that this is helpful

And still obsessed over roses, huh? Well, I guess I can't say anything, since I'm currently obsessed over something as well, so carry on. XD

I took some referencing for :thumb265030147: and since then, roses have been so fun to draw

Yeah, I have sort of the same obsession over feathers and wings.
References are nice. It's just sometimes hard to find the right one. DX

I still have an obsession with feathers and wings but they are quite hard to do with copics

Lol, that's why I usually colour everything on the computer. Plus my printer is still stupid and it doesn't like coloured works. T_T

I like the fact that you can undo things digitally as well as having layers since it makes life so much easier. I was doing the lineart for this piece and I made a mistake in the cheek and reached for Ctrl+Z but I realised that I was doing a traditional artwork xD

do you think that all anime art is the same? I have a thread here [link] and someone is saying that all anime art is the same- how should I explain this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rueleer In reply to haneiy [2011-11-04 22:09:42 +0000 UTC]

Well, first of all, there are many different types of anime, and while they all follow basic rules, all of them are unique because of the slight differences in them. None of them can be the same unless copied. Someone might like putting more details in the eyes, while someone else may like more detail in the hair, which makes them seperate from each other. Tell them to take a look at two different anime shows, say, for example, Fruits Basket and Vampire Knight. Both are anime, but there are drastic differences between them that neither could really be mistaken for each other.

Just ask them to look for the differences that matter instead of the similarities in anime. I'll help as much as I can.

haneiy In reply to Rueleer [2011-11-04 22:11:43 +0000 UTC]

thanks I agree since if all anime was the same, then isn't all literature the same (because they use the same letters and words) but they aren't. I really love your 'rise' work!
