Chapter 2

All of a sudden, she noticed that her index finger was stuck to her pencil. She shook her hand a couple of time, but it held fast. She grabbed it with her other hand and tried to work it off. She managed to tear it off after a few seconds. She noticed as spot of bare wood on the pencil, however. She looked at her finger and, sure enough, there was a patch of yellow paint encrusted on her finger. It even had a few small splinters of wood stuck in it. She stared at it, dumbstruck. She tried scraping it with her thumbnail, but only got a few small flakes off.

She remembered the incident from Friday. She had been a little bothered by it, not so much by what had actually happened, but that she couldn’t begin to explain how it had happened. She had tried to laugh it off, with moderate success.

Now, however, she couldn’t help but worry. Twice in the same weekend her skin had inexplicably adhered itself to things she had touched. There had been no residue of any glue or anything on the glass when her lip finally came free, and she was certain it would be the same this time.

Then she remembered the creepy old woman who said that phrase to her, how something about it had chilled her to the bone. She tried to remember how it went. She couldn’t remember it exactly, but once she thought about it, she seemed to remember one of the words sounding something like ‘adhesive.’

Chapter 2
