Description Train Set #61. I had to look really hard to find this engine. This is by far the smallest and loudest engine in the entire collection. This cute little engines name is Captain Crunch! It sounds like a blender on pulverize mode when traveling down the tracks. It is not used to haul any cars but used more for entertainment purposes. I love it! he he he

My first HO loco. I wish I still had her was a gem. Don't remember her being loud nut I was a kid back then.

That honor goes to a Lionel O scale set my parents bought me for Christmas one year.

Yep, do have some original Lionel O scale too but lots more HO.

I got one of these when I was about 9.

The light bulb had shattered when they put it in the locomotive, so when I opened it razor sharp shards of glass came flying out!

Hey, I'm having some trouble with this train recently. The gear on the axel doesn't grip any more so when I try to run it, the gear spins around the axel and the train goes no where. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?

At least it isn't the Mantua/Model Power one! (that one is jumpier than Anakin in the prequels and just as fast-paced!). I don't hate it, but I only use it to pull tankers (2).

Since it is named, I could make a nameplate for it! On American locomotives with names, it is usually under the cab windows, but for this saddle tank, I'd put it under the AT&SF logo on the tanks, like a British tank engine.

Mine is very quiet. It is also a smoother runner than my newer Mantua side tank I bought with my own money when I was eight. It is also very gentle with the cars I give it and for that I use it to move passenger cars down from the yards into the station. Other times it is out switching. I love T-couplers since an engine as gentle as these can just tap lightly and get a firm couple. I got mine from Texas when I visited my Aunt in Dallas (I lived in Austin for 2 yrs., so I still consider myself Texan, even though I am am technically Ohioan, and lived in WV the most) for $20. The locomotive holds a special place in my heart since it is actually from Texas, and it its A S.F. locomotive. She was also the only thing other than my aunt's Ipad and my phone for me to do at Key west at the house except stare into the sea imagining the long bridges still there, with my new steam locomotive traversing it. I also loved how while I was there all the little metal bits shined in the sun of Key West. Some people on some DCC forums often insult and ridicule the engine for it's jumpiness (and are somehow okay with the Bachmann handcar) and lack of detail. However, off of E-Z track, she is a bit noisier, but still not as bad as 90% of all model diesels. Mine has been a proven workhorse with lots of character in such a small little plastic shell. Glad to see others enjoying them too.

You have a good engine then! Got plenty of t-couplers but this engine runs like a mad dog in heat! So funny and one of my personal favorite engines! Uh, actually on DA to absorb all golden modeling info so please keep dishing it out my friend.

I am making narrow gauge on that empty space on the right of the layout! It uses standard n-scale track, but in HO scale. It is 30" gauge to scale, where normal HO track is 4' 8 1/2" to scale.

My Mantua one is like that. Sometimes when the two double-head, (mantua one has to be first because of the fake coupler, WHICH HAS NO POINT,MANTUA!!) the Santa Fe one is going slightly slower, and down this one hill, it is going "STOP, YOU FOOL, YOU'LL KILL US ALL!" and when the Mantua one goes over switches (the stupid plastic part) it goes "Move it, fatty!"

'specially when it is an essential part of points (the short X-shape known as a "frog" for some odd reason)! They are almost famous for getting littler engines with less pickups stuck since it basically deprives them of power over the switch, unlike a larger engine with more pickups on it's more numerous wheels, where it can go over it with no trouble.
HO TRAIN COMPANIES, Y U SELL TROLL SWITCHES TO MAH LAYOUT!!

Mine's actually really quiet. The only sound mine makes is the subtle churning sound of the gears turning. For an engine with plastic gears and old, it is an astonishing switcher and is often used to read passenger trains due to it's gentleness.

I used to have a train cam video somewhere? Actual perspective from the trains point of view. VHS tape from back in the caveman times. I only watch youtube and never upload anything.

I've got dozens of VHS tapes. I remember the days when they would say "on VHS and DVD". I also remember TV shows and movies were a lot more enjoyable, like pre-movie Spongebob, Edd, Ed, & Eddy (when ever someone whistles like that, I say Edd, Ed, & Eddy and whistle a little of the theme), and other awesome cartoons. Nowadays, TV is mainly sitcoms that are really boring with really phoned-in and overused jokes and cartoons with really random flashes of color and little to no plot. I miss the days of VHS, 'specially since it is harder to lose a VHS than it is a DVD.

Interesting! I have the exact same locomotive and its also the loudest train I own. The coupling in the bac is fine, the front is missing a piece, and the coupling. It rattles around the layout going foreward like its in an earthquake. Runnng backwards, it runs smoothly.

Rockyrailroad578 In reply to Tesla51 [2014-03-12 02:51:07 +0000 UTC]

I have an extra coupler that only fits on that and this old Tri-ang coach in my collection. I have no use for it at the moment since both the Santa Fe 0-4-0 ( I named mine "Spock" since the prototype came from the Vulcan locomotive works) and the Santa Fe observation car are fine.

I will have to try Captain Crunch in reverse to see what happens. This is by far the funniest engine to drive in the collection. Mine just might cause some earthquakes too! lol

Rockyrailroad578 In reply to hankypanky68 [2014-03-12 02:55:02 +0000 UTC]

Mine is slightly jumpier backwards since the rear fuel bunker (the Santa Fe burned oil instead of coal) is heavy and leans on the back a little more than the switcher beams up front. But mine is just weird that way. BTW, I suggest running the loco on clean track so it can collect power better. It helps to use either track cleaning solution or a track cleaning car periodically. I inspect and test my track with my crappy-running and noisy Mantua one (the side tank, not this one) to see where the dirty bits of track are, get an old eraser, rub it back and forth until it gets covered in grime from the engines, then it is usually good.
