Description
This is Eris, the Greek Goddess of Strife and Discord.Brief background: Eris wasn't liked amongst the gods, so when Peleus and Thetis were married she was the only one who wasn't invited. She turned up anyway, but when she was refused entry she threw her wedding present through the doors, the Apple of Discord, which was addressed to 'the fairest'. Athena, Hera and Aphrodite argued among themselves who should lay claim to the apple, and went to Earth to ask Paris, prince of Troy, to choose. The goddesses bribed him, but Paris awarded the apple to Aphrodite, who gave him the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen, in return. This instigated the Trojan war.
My version of Eris was inspired by the design in 'The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy'

Discord = disagreement, dispute, or quarreling
I like how you mentioned how she's the goddess of Strife and Discord, not Chaos. She was actually talked about in several of my mythology classes, and scholars are saying that in the ancient religions of the Greeks, she wasn't THE bringer of chaos like she is portrayed today, but she was a chaotic element. She was the goddess/spiritual embodiment of discord, and they didn't invite her because they didn't want any arguements. She doesn't do what she does because she is evil or wicked, but because it is in her nature to want to start conflict, just like it is in Aphrodite's (goddess of sexual desire and passion, not love) to be promiscuous, and for Athena's (Goddess of wisdom and defensive combat) to be a bit of a know it all.
This portrait is lovely, and the caption really captures the traditional mythological views of her.

Myths get so easily twisted, I think. Mostly, I blame Disney, ha. I do think the greek gods were assholes though, especially Zeus. Seriously, all her did was sleep with EVERYONE. But I guess he was the main creator. At any rate, it's all very fascinating.
