Himantoglossum hircinum is not one of the most popular wild orchids. Especially as this species is proliferating in 2024.In any case, I never get tired of seeing it. I like his goatees, his fine purple stripes and his sturdy growth. A flower that doesn't look like a show-off...
Here's a little "family" growing in Vollachermühl, a former limestone quarry.
Incidentally, its common name in French is "Orchis bouc" (Goat Orchid), because of its often unpleasant smell.
