Description Pencils/Inks: Don Figueroa
Colours: Me

This is an old Starscream cover by Don Figueroa for the Dreamwave period, which I coloured for him this month, not sure how long it took, but worked on it over two days, so not too long. Logo is on there just to create a bit more of a cover appearance.

Don said the slingshot was something Screamer used in one of the first episodes of the G1 Cartoon, if you're curious about the why of that.

Very nice, indeed! <3

I like how well you filled out the explosion, and added a bit of grainy-ness. I also agree though that his head looks a bit too red. It seems like it has too much color in comparion to the explosion reflections on the rest of his body. Perhaps adding more of a yellow hue?

I'm also curious.. what issue would this cover have been for?

Loool! Starscream's null rays are not working, so he swiped a toy from a poor little boy to take out Autobots, heh.

Did you notice the explosion?

If it was an explosion reflecting on a black surface it wouldn't really look THAT red, especially compared to the two Autobots located closer to the explosion.

I love this pic! Don ROX! Fig is the man amung TF fans (like myself).

Critique:
(I don't know jack about sqwaut usually BUT...)
Why is Starscreams arms and forelegs purple-ish? And head red-ish?

What is a reflection of the explosion? If so - cool idea!

The thing thats WAY SWEET is how you did the pectoral 'muscles' - aka turbines. I never thought to show 'Screamer with those turbines actively rotating as they look here. Great job!

They're purplish, because if you have a coloured lightsource, you will see a different colour, because light is absorbed by the blue and reflected in specific ways, since there would be more orange light reflected, the colour seems to be more orange like, creating a purple colour.

If you have Photshop, or Paint Shop Pro, you can repeat the process I used:

Make a blue object on one layer. Put a layer over that and paint it orange, orange being the colour of the light source, which thus has mainly radiation with that type of frequency (near red). Make the orange layer transparent and twiddle a bit with the layer settings, from 'normal' to 'overlay', to 'hard light', etc.

It's a bit like looking through orange glasses.

actually an object is blue because it absorbs light of all colors except blue. It rejects blue and the blue is thus "reflected" towards the eye. if you were in a dark room with zero ambient light, use a single light source/torch with a transparent red/orange/any non-blue colored plastic sheet on a blue object and see the colors. the reason why starscream's arm is purplish is because there is also ambient light of other colors or white light by in a lower intensity. i suggest giving starscream stronger shadows in front... it makes sense cos he is facing away from the explosion. as strong as the light is, his left should be even brighter.

Looks brilliant, like the dramtic clash that starscreams colours always bring to a page.

As for the energon slingshot metalformer, its a long slippery slope from mentioning that and the annoying wheelie shows up

Looks beautiful. The slingshot is a nice shot, though a bit odd-looking for a giant robot (well, I guess giant robots are odd-looking as well...). Maybe if it were an Energon slingshot, it would have looked nice. But nevermind, its just my opinion, whatever worth it might be.

Now THAT is just plain COOL.

I agree, you might wanna dim down the red some. I know it's supposed to be from the nifty explosion but it seems too bright. Unless he, I dunno, just blew up a propane truck or something.

Desaturate the red on him. Make anything that is purple on his body a blue color. [link]
That should help ya out.

hansime In reply to msynowicz [2007-06-11 16:52:49 +0000 UTC]

Well I coloured him in his normal colours first, then put an orange glow over him, hence why it's a bit purplish. That was intended though.

I'll play with the orange layer's settings a bit, see if it needs some tweaking.
