Folks suggested this to me in the past by having Zoro be a descendant of the Uchiha Clan. Shimotsuki Ushimaru and Shimotsuki Ryuma are connected to the clan as well.

Like Ryuma or Ushimaru, depending on who came first, I forgot [please let me know in the comments belong] were once members of the clan who at some point left to become a famous wandering swordsman. Eventually, Zoro was made at some point where his Sharingan awakened due to the loss of Kuina.
