Heimdallr: Norse God of Light, Security, and Surveillance100 Gods and Goddesses Challenge
A fairly difficult one to draw too. Heimdallr is the guard of Bifrost, the rainbow bridge to Asgard- realm of the gods. He can see night as well as day and can hear the wool growing on a sheep, and sleeps less than a bird. The sound of his horn can be heard in all seven of the realms.
I wouldn't screw with someone this hopped up on caffeine, personally.
Heimdallr is also called 'the whitest of the Gods'. Having no idea what this specifically refers to, I made him generally unsaturated.
He gives scholars an issue because apparently the few facts that remain about him are very contradictory or don't have much to do with one another... I don't really see that, but okay. XD

Heimdall is kind of a strange character. He's also associated with Rigr, who fathered the three sects of mankind (thralls, freemen, and nobles I think), and some stories say he was born as a human and kinda "ascended" to godhood, and that he gifted the runes to mankind after Odin discovered them. I think that's what those scholars mean!

Ahh, I see, I hadn't heard that before! That seems to be kind of a common thing in mythology- mortals ascending to godhood. I guess it's very Euhemeristic in a way...?

The outfit is definitely pretty close to historical! Good job! There are a lot of fancy renditions of Heimdall out there, but yours is I think one of my favorites. I think I like it more than mine. 
It does seem to be a recurring theme. I dunno if Euhemerism applies to mortals who aren't based on real people... but maybe it does! Or hey, maybe Heimdall was based on a guy (or group of guys)!
Also, I was just looking for pics to stick into my group. But I didn't know you drew Undercover Odin! Yessss!

I actually did know he has gold teeth. Too bad you can't see them in this picture.
Mythology works in strange and mysterious ways... haha. Must be why it's one of my favorite subjects (I'm kicking myself over not being able to fit Norse Mythology into my schedule next semester... ah well. It's Roman literature for me I guess.)
