Description Yeeeahh page 12.

Pronunciation Guide
Ariadne: air-ee-AD-nee. Theseus' first girlfriend who he ditched on an island and won't be seen during the duration of this comic. Yeeeahh. Poor Ari. She betrayed her own father for THESEUS of all people. So did Medea, come to think of it. I'm sensing a pattern
(at least Ariadne supposedly lived happily ever after with Dion)
Demos: DEM-oss or DEM-ohs. It is the political entity represented by the people of a city-state, so really the demos can be thought of as Athens himself. '-cracy' or 'cratic' comes from the word 'kratos' which means 'power' or 'rule'. So a democracy is 'rule by the demos', or 'rule by the people'. X3
Yeahhh I'm so excited to formally start Greek classes next year. :3
Athens didn't have a democracy until the 6th century BCE... just after he'd had Draco for a boss. (Under Draconian law, idleness was punishable by death. Be thankful for some of your laws now.)
After democracy was instituted is about when Athens started becoming really full of himself. Between the Dark Ages and democracy he was a wimpy little introverted bookworm. XD I think.

Thinky Organs: Hearts
Remember, in ancient times no one really thought the brain was a very useful organ. (The Egyptians didn't bother preserving it because it was one of the wettest and gooiest organs and would ruin the whole mummification process. After all, who needs to remember your brain, anyway?)
I stumbled across a lesser known (probably because it doesn't make sense today) fable by Aesop called The Deer without a Heart . Come on, click the link, it's a tiny little thing.
Often, thinking and feeling was attributed to organs such as the heart and liver. I don't think the brain was really thought of as the center of intelligence until the Hellenistic Age. XD

The Titan Prometheus, in some myths, created humans out of clay and gave them organs and stuff. I don't think I have to explain that one, it's basically like saying "When God was handing out brains..." for people raised in Judeo-Christian-centric places like North America and Europe, anyway. XD

From now on Athens and Theseus are going to have to interact more with each other. Joy.

Well. It's a pretty name? XD;; And to be fair I share my name with a certain Arthurian lady whose story most definitely does not end well so she's got me there.

Actually, my sister and her future husband became friends in high school classics club and they did a play of this story for a competition. My sister was Ariadne and he was Theseus. XD;; But basically if I hadn't mentioned it before, they decided that if they had boys they would be named after knights of the round table and if they had girls they would named after Greek princesses from mythology.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
It seems that Greek princesses often end up being sacrifice victims (at least for a while) so I'm a little worried.

Wait a high school classics club
I'm super jealous. ;A; The closest thing there was to a club in my school was the hang-around-and-smoke-outside-the-school-and-piss-off-the-peace-officers-and-the-neighbours club. ;A;
