Description RESULTS  - 2nd/5 (lost by a nose)

The year following WBS The Antichrists near fatal injury at the 2016 TS Pacific Classic drudged on rather slowly. Beelz was in a sling for a long time before she was even allowed to walk around, Dallas having to give her physical therapy and keep up on the mares meds religiously. Her recovery was slow, but luckily for her the bone healed as perfectly as it could. With time, Dallas got the mare back into the rhythm of training. It was then determined that she would take the remainder of the mares 4 year old career slow. She was already almost 5 years old, so depending on how she faired in her training, they would only have time for one or two races towards her 4 year old career before she aged to 5. The whole accident really opened Dallas's eyes in the form of advisory from the vet. He had mentioned that racing 2 year olds was detrimental to their long term health and was a strong factor in the reasoning behind Beelz and so many other race horses break downs. At that point, Dallas had made it known to her staff and jockeys that she was no longer going to be racing 2 year olds. Instead of beginning their training at 1, they would begin at 2, then debut at 3- ensuring the longevity of the athletes. Or, at least, giving them a stronger fighting chance at a longer, healthier career.
Thumbing through the list of races available, it wasn't difficult for Dallas to decide on a race to debut her mare after her long rest. Beelz had ran at Devil Night Downs twice during her 3 year old career, stealing first place both times. There was something magnificent about the mare. No matter the surface and no matter her opponents, she always knew what she wanted and took it every time. Undefeated until her break down, the press had hounded Dallas relentlessly about the recovery of the mare. Things were hectic at first, but as the year drug on, the frantic buzz about the accident died down. It was for this reason that Dallas waited until damn near last minute to register Beelz for the race at Devil Night Downs. That way, less people knew that Beelz was coming back to the track, and with that paired less stress for Dallas.
When the staff from White Blood Stables arrived at the track, heads spun as people saw the big mare being unloaded from the trailer. She had ceased to be but a thing of the past after her break down, but not anymore. The cat was out of the bag now. Reporters pushed to get into Dallas's face, but she didn't mutter a word. She knew better not to talk when things like this happened- she had learned her lesson from Ghosts injury during the 2015 TS Pacific Classic. Though most believed that no publicity was bad publicity, Dallas chose the silent route. Even though Ghost had pulled up to win the race she broke down in, people always had something bad to say, so she could only imagine what they had to say about Beelz's break down. Or the fact that Beelz was the third horse to break down at White Blood Stables. The trainer heard whispers, but didn't go out of her way to read into any opinions that anyone had about her horses. Beelz was healthy again, and that was all that mattered in her mind. Dallas led the mare away from the press, whose flashing lights caught the attention of the mare, but even she seemed like she didn't want to deal with them. Beelz tucked her head and followed the red head obediently.
...
Post time was closing in, and the grounds were a flurry of horses and hands. Onlookers watched excitedly, ages ranging from child to elderly- all gathered to witness the sport they all loved. Stable hands collected Beelz and began readying the mare. One took to her tail- wrapping it neatly in a red wrap with a red bow, both beautiful and serving as a cautious reminder to keep your distance. Another stable hand groomed her coat until the marbled hairs shone and glistened in the saturated sunlight. When the hand that was wrapping her tail finished, he moved to her front- combing her mane just enough to remove the tangles that miraculously appeared in a few hours. He then left to grab her saddle. The hand that had been grooming her finished up and moved to her hooves- picking the small amount of debris from her bare frogs carefully. When he got to her front left hoof he paused before picking it up. He looked at the long scar that ran down the front of her cannon, beginning right below her knee and ending right before her pastern. The hair refused to grow back, revealing her thin layer of pink skin. He thumbed over the scar, seeming in a trance, until the other stable hand hollered at him and snapped him back into mode. He picked up her hoof and picked it clean before stretching each of her legs individually- all the while working quickly yet carefully around the hand that was tacking up the mare. Abhijat Devar mounted the mare as she was being led off, and settled himself in the saddle before fixing his goggles. Dallas came walking up beside her mare and jockey, eyeing the horses around her.  "Give me the run down, boss." The jockey didn't even look to Dallas, he knew she'd be there like clockwork.
"Central Perk, #1.." As Dallas spoke up, Abhijat's eyes searched for the horse in question, "She is an up and coming 2 year old- this is her first turf race so she is a bit of a wild card at this point. Keep an eye out for her and don't underestimate her. Disillusioned, #3.. A familiar face that you already know about. We've raced him before- he came in 5th at the Belmont when you took 3rd with Ghost." Abhijat tilted his head as he recalled the race, then focused again as Dallas continued, "Madamoiselle De La Fer, #4.. She's a 3 year old and aside from Beelz she has the most experience in this field. She does really well on Turf so don't look past her. #6 is Minding Pharoah- he comes fast out of the gate but don't worry about matching him. He keeps a fast pace, and will try to come to the outside when closing. Be careful when you make your move not to bump irons, cause I have a feeling he will make his move quick." Dallas stopped walking as the mare was led off. Abjijat looked back at her, "Don't worry boss.. she knows what to do." The jockey gave a symbolic thumbs up, of which Dallas nodded to with a smile and left to find her seat.

Wow, can I just point out your shading, I've never noticed you shading, well, not with black xD for the horses anyway, it looks so much cooler!

There is lots of shaded art here angry-horse-for-life.deviantar…
This is actually my old shading style. It used to take me forever but I'm much quicker at it now (of course, as soon as I change styles )
As far as dark horses go, I think it looks great on Enzo (you'll see him in that link).
But before that style, I was doing a more simplified version, and I really love how This  black horse came out with that style.
My new shading style would have to be my favorite thus far, however.
I seriously can't wait to draw a black horse with it cause black has always been difficult for me to shade but it's much easier with this new style of mine.

This style of shading? Very interesting!
I won't be getting rid of it any time soon, since my new style is VERY time consuming.
So fear not- there will be much more to come
