Myrthe was growing fast, getting bigger and bigger. She was already as high as some of the adult horses. Luckily she has a lovely sweet personality and is a natural follower. From the beginning she has been handled a lot, and always has been gentle. Fleur, the 16 year old girl who helps around at the stables fell in love with the gentle giant the first time she saw her. She has spent loads of time cuddling the young mare, playing with her, and teaching her new stuff. They quickly grew a strong bond. So when Isa told Fleur that Myrthe would enter a foal competition, she was very excited! And she felt very proud when Isa asked her if she would take on training Myrthe. Eventhough the competition was just playing with a ball, they sure had to train for it. For example, Myrthe had never played with a ball before. So they started with that. The first time Fleur threw the ball in the pen with Myrthe, she didn't even look at it, she just didn't get what she was supposed to do with it. When Fleur started to roll it towards her, she even was a bit scared for a minute. So the next few sessions they worked on not being scared of the ball. When that was done, Fleur started to challenge Myrthe, playing with the mare, and with the ball at the same time. Then, one day, Myrthe was in a real playfull mood, and Fleur kicked the ball against her front legs. The youngster reared a little, and swirled her head at the ball, kicking it forward. She then stood still, seeming to think 'whait, what?'. Then Fleur ran towards the ball, her fast movement triggering Myrthe, who ran with her, bucking. She finally understood how much fun it was to play with the ball. After that, no more training was needed, just having fun!

At the day of the competition, Fleur again felt really proud, walking around the venue with this large, gorgeous golden girl next to her. At her other side was her sister, holding the tiny grey shetfoal, Thor. Fleur giggled as she thought about how funny they must be looking all together.
Myrthe loved the competition, as it was just playtime for her. She also loved the people cheering her on, which made her play even with more enthousiasm. Fleur was smiling from ear to ear, so happy she was allowed to do this!
