That is a valid explanation, anime conventions do occasionally have people selling swords! A sword that big though...hopefully they weren't charged an arm and a leg for it!

The question isn't where Papyrus found the sword, it's where Undyne found it! The spear was probably her own addition, but who throws out a sword like that? Did Alphys make it after an all night anime bender? It is a mystery.
