Description
CSW's second AICon 2008 Cosplay which was utter pain to wear, Kadaj from Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children! She died from the heat in it (curse the smexual leather!) and she couldn't sit down without undoing it around the knees, but aside from that she had heaps of fun in it XD Particularly with her hand-made Jenova box which people insisted on stealing!Cyber Snow White as Kadaj

Umm, this is probably a dumb question. But I was thinking of doing a kadaj cosplay, and I was woundering what you used to make this.

This was back when I first started cosplay, so I bought a base, long pleather cloak and modified it from there! You should be able to purchase a fake leather from most fabric stores

I saw Advent Children for the first time yesterday... And spent 90% of the time agreeing with my friend that Kadaj is *smexy*
And so is this cosplay!

this is incredible! ive been wanting to cosplay as kadaj for the longest time but i havent been able to find a good outfit of his anywhere (and im kinda low on money, -_-''

CSW: Dooo it, Kadaj is heaps of fun to cosplay! I bought the base coat for this outfit off a seller on ebay, sorry but I no longer remember their name. Then I modified it to the point where I was happy with it accuracy: Took it in around the waist area, took it in on the sleeves, added new cuffs to it, and made up the shoulder guards and strapping which goes across the chest and upper back of the costume, and finally made up the straps for the legs.

WOULD you have made that from scratch if you had the time? Using real leather or vegan leather? (not to be confused with vynil, latex or pleather) Or would you have picked a less difficult and expensive fabric?

Tess: Absolutely I would have! I perfer to make my own costumes because I love gaining the sewing and construction experience, and also putting in the hard yards to have it all pay off in the end. Most of the time I do make them from stratch, but alas I didn't have the time when this was done

I'm sure you must have some real skill then because I've heard leathers and immitation leathers are quite difficult to deal with, not that I know personally. Then again, everyone says you're incredible at what you do so I'm not going to doubt them.

Tess: Lol everyone flatters me, I so don't! I'm still a sewing noob on most levels, I think I just have a lot of determination to make up for it! XD Miss Jess my wonderful cosplay partner still teaches me bits and bobs about sewing from time to time, she's the one with the epic skillz!

aha determination makes up for everything because it is there that improvements come from and things get done. I'm not some flailing fanboy but I do respect what I considder to be a job well done and I do think what you guys do is fantastic.
I myself havbe only ever made a pair of pajama pants in my time, and I do have a sewing machine but no longer have any clue how to use it. Hence I never cosplay myself - though I would like to.
I draw and digitally colour and photo manipulate and design. Thats my skills.

CSW: Thankyou! Normally I try to make all my outfits from scratch, but this one I bought the base leather coat the outfit is made from and modded it because we were running a convention so there was no time to make it from scratch! Thanks so much for your comment!

I find it weird that when girls cosplay as Kadaj, their chest disappear entirely, but it makes the cosplay better.

CSW: It's a technique called "binding" where we flatten our chest down using bandages and sports tape so we have a more masculine body shape
