Description
Battle of the Atlantic Part 4
Russian Convoy number SL 124
Russian Convoy SL 124 was a slow moving convey considering they have already been hit by F-35 –B lighting IIs once they were on high alert. However, the convoy’s SAM equipped ships where hit pretty badly in the attack and only one ship with SAMs was still afloat. The Russians need these supplies to get to the Invasion force at Yemen, which needed these supplies. However, they needed to run a gauntlet just to get there in intact.
USS Dallas
“Sir we are approaching where those pilots were shot down by those Su 47s.” said the helm officer hoping that the Russians did not kill them in anger. That or taken prisoner, or another American naval unit beat them to those pilots. “Sir! I have a Chinese Han class nuclear powered attack submarine he just showed up sir!” yelled the icepick sonar man. “Captain we being hailed on Gertrude.” Said the communications officer. Gertrude was in essence submarine-to-submarine underwater telephone to put it simply. “This Captain Charles S. Harris of the Los Angles Class Submarine USS Dallas to whom I am speaking?” said Captain Charles with wonder that who was this. “This is Naval General Kiang’ Woutako of the Han class nuclear powered attack submarine number 405. Captain the Russians have broken a treaty we held deeply and trusted them to uphold for as long as either country existed, but they broke that treaty a month ago with an invasion across our borders. I am the highest naval officer in the Chinese Navy almost everyone else was killed in the initial attack. Also besides just Han class number 405 three Kilos, four Mings, two Sierras, and an Alfa class attack submarines is all that’s left of our submarine force.” Kiang’ Woutako said. “What about surface power?” asked Captain Charles though he had a feeling what the answer was. “In terms of that two Luhus, 20 Lebeds, 5 Luda Is, 8 Luda IIs, and 9 Luda IVs, as well as 2 of our prized Beijing class Aircraft Carriers and that is all that is left of our navy. Please don’t get me started on our Army, and Air force.” Said the Naval General. “Understood Naval General Kiang’ we understand but, dam I never saw that coming.” Replied the captain. “Okay then Naval General sit tight we are going to send an ELF transmission to COMSUBLANT this ought to get their attention.” Said Captain Charles over Gertrude. He then broke the connection. “Comm officer get an ELF message out to COMSUBLANT. Tell them about what happened to China and what is left of their Navy.
COMSUBLANT
“Hey Commander! There is an ELF transmission coming from the USS Dallas.” Yelled an ensign. “I will be right there.” Responded the Commander with wonder. When he finished reading, he could only mutter “Gawd.” “My thought to sir. I just could not believe that the Russians invaded one of their own allies!” replied the ensign. “Send a response saying that what is left of the Chinese Navy has permission to pull into Norfolk for repairs, refitting, rearming, and refueling.” Said the commander. Then he thought Holy! I never thought that Russia would go that low!
USS Dallas
“We got response I think that Mr. Naval General Kiang’ needs to hear this sir!” yelled the communication officer. “Naval General Kiang’ get your forces together because you are going to Norfolk for repairs, refitting, rearming, and refueling as well as having your ships added to the US Navy active list.” Said captain Charles pleased to know that soon Enterprise would not be alone anymore. “Thank you captain.” Said the General with joy.
Naval Station Norfolk
Everyone starred in shock as what was left of the Chinese Navy pulled into Norfolk sure enough what was left had taken a pounding. Naval General Kiang’ had never seen so many cutting torches at work at once. The Beijing needed a full overhaul as well as her sister ship the Hong Kong because both fled the naval base at Shanghai during a Russian Blinder raid, the Blinder was a conventional bomber that could carry only bombs. The Lebeds survived a miracle at all. In addition, every single submarine save for the Alfa needed to be repaired. In addition, when the repair crew got into the Han class 405 CIC they found that it was raining in there. Turned out that the faster the Chinese carriers were put to sea the better off they would be.
Convoy SL 124
The convoy had almost successfully succeed in running the gauntlet but the last SAM equipped ship was low on missiles and in turn its ability to defend the convoy.
A NH-53 Super Sea Stallion
The helicopter was moving at top speed to pick those American pilots shot three days ago and they were going in hot with a full defensive package and two AIM-9-S sidewinder missiles designed for helicopters. “Enterprise we are coming up on the last known location of the downed pilots.” Said the pilot with a flat voice. “Roger that HS-29812-SDJ.” Replied the radio operator on the Enterprise. A squadron of F-35-Cs was due today to relieve the F-35-Bs that Enterprise had been using but in the meantime, a flight of Raptors had been scrambled to protect the NH-53. “Okay we are approaching the last known position of the pilots.” Said the pilot over the intercom. “Whoa! Flare bearing 90 degrees!” shouted the starboard door gunner. “Roger new course bearing 90 degrees!” shouted the co-pilot. The SAR mission was half way over when the second pilot shouted. “Aw No! No! No!” eighteen MIG-25 Foxhounds were beginning to circle menacingly. The pilot began to shout for help the Raptors, which were at 20,000 feet above them then the MIGs force opened fire. AA-8 Aphid missiles streaked by the pilot jerked the copter around. Meanwhile the rescue swimmer and the second pilot could only watch. The copter lurched as a swallow missile decoy left the copter and an Aphid hit it only 2 minutes after it left a missile hit it. “Take this!” yelled the co-pilot. The copter jerked as an AIM-9-S left the copter and hit a MIG-25 Foxhound it spun out of control and slammed into the water still going nearly 600 mph. However, the MIGs were down to one last salvo of missiles and all of them at fired at the same time and missed except for one. The poor rescue swimmer and the pilot could only watch in horror as the last missile’s laser proximity fuse detected the helicopter and a nanosecond later the missile exploded. In the cockpit alarms were blaring, the “pull up” alarm went off. “Hang on everyone!” shouted the co-pilot. “Come on! Auto rotate! Auto rotate!” cried the pilot. Then the pilot began yell. “Mayday! This is HS-29812-SDJ we have been hit by a missile! I repeat this HS-29812-SDJ we are going do….” The pilot could not even finish the repeat of the message cause then the Helicopter hit the ground. Meanwhile, the Raptor pilots were consumed with rage, because no one would dare shoot down a rescue helicopter and the Russians needed to pay. AIM-154-B AALRAMs were fired and for the Russians that the missiles came out of nowhere and four of the MIGs fell out of the sky. A second salvo blotted out four more the Russians began to turn and run. However, a salvo of AIM-120-Ds came in and nailed another four. Then a second salvo blotted out four more. There was only one left then the flight lead said “break off they have had enough.” However, it was too late number four fired another missile and nailed the last MIG.
USS Port Royal CG-73
“Sir you know that NH-53 super sea stallion we were watching on radar well she vanished but also we picked up this.” Said a young seaman with anger. When the captain heard the mayday call then heard it cut off he snapped “New course last know position of that NH-53 at flank speed!” “Aye-Aye sir!” responded the seaman. “Helm new course bearing 289 degrees at best possible speed!” growled the captain. “Yes sir!” responded the helm officer. “Engines are answering ahead flank.” Said the helm officer. Four hours later the USS Port Royal was at the location of the NH-53 crash site and there was a Gremyashchy class corvette trying to capture the rescue swimmer and the American pilot. Unfortunately, for the Russians the captain of the USS Port Royal was not going to have it. “Fore gun mount go active!” yelled the captain. The Mark 61 Mod 2 5 inch 58 caliber gun went into five round burst mode and swung out to port and fired a five round burst. The first salvo missed but got their attention. In the CIC of the Port Royal a fire control operator went to manual and lined the target up in the cross hairs and fired a three round burst. The rounds landed much closer, the bigger caliber made it a good weapon for this kind of job. The gunner fired again this time a five round burst, the two of the rounds were clean missiles but three landed right along the water line blowing three ten foot holes in the ship and then the ship fired its own 100 mm gun but none of the rounds came close. The enemy corvette was taking on water. Meanwhile the rescue swimmer and the pilot were now swimming for their lives. “Captain look she is raising her colors she is Russian alright. Wait there is another flag going up. It is the Red Pennant. That means no prisoners taken sir.” Said the ensign. The captain replied by saying. “Looks like the Russians want to play hardball if they want to play hardball then let’s do it.” “Missiles inbound!” but by then the radar had detected and fired two SAMs and nailed both missiles. “Weapons give me a full spread of Harpoons!” ordered the captain. The ship shuddered as four harpoon missiles with expanding blast fragmentation warheads raced to their target. “Comrade Captain! Incoming!” cried a lookout. “Turn into the missiles. And fire chaff!” barked the captain. Nevertheless, the missiles did not care the attack pattern was sea skimming the ship began to turn and the missiles adjusted. Then someone with a chain gun fired spitting lead at the incoming missiles. The missiles microchip brains noticed the turn and began to track. The missiles impacted seconds apart from each other in a nice tight grouping right on the stern blowing it off and sending him to the bottom. The Port Royal then proceed to pick up the downed American pilot and the rescue swimmer.
USS Enterprise
Things were sad on board because they knew that they had lost a great pilot and friend. Then a lookout noticed something a Ticonderoga Class Guided Missile Cruiser. Her signal light was flashing the message read, “How much ice cream is Miss. Mesial worth?” The USS Port Royal received 45 gallons ice cream.
Naval Station Norfolk
Any leftover aircraft capable of landing on an aircraft carrier was split between the Hong Kong and Beijing because they were back in business and ready to help.
