Description
The Battle of the Atlantic. Part 1
USS Gerald R. Ford
The USS Gerald R. Ford was lead ship in the class of the same name. However, she was not alone there were at least 70 destroyers, 30 cruisers; on top of that there were two other carriers. Those carriers were the USS Ronald Regan, the French carrier Charles de Gaulle, and the British HMS Prince of Wales. “Captain we have reports of Tu-95 Bear-Ds in the area should we go to yellow alert?” Asked first officer Henry Jefferson. “No.” replied Captain Garcia Holland.
Two Bear-Ds
“Gull two this is Gull one in ten seconds we are to activate our big bulge radars over” said the pilot of gull one. “Rodger that.” Responded the pilot of gull two. “In three…two….one illuminate!” cried the pilot of gull one. The instant illuminate had been heard the radar operators activated there radars. “Jack pot” cried one of the radar operators. “Many ships to the south and east could be an American task force 23 that we were told about.” Said the other radar operator.
CIC of the Ronald Regan
“Whoa, where did all of this come from?” said a radar operator as signals came in that signaled that powerful radars illuminate them. From that, the info was sent to the Gerald R. Ford.
A Tu-122M Backfire call sign sea hawk 1
“Comrades or fellow radar comrades have hit pay dirt now it’s our job to sink whatever they have found.” Roared the pilot over the radio. “Sea Hawk 1 to all Sea Hawks one my mark we will launch our missiles.” Said the pilot with apparent ease. “Three…..two…..one. Mark!” Bellowed the pilot into the radio. With that command the 200 Backfires fired there 350 missiles.
USS Bunker Hill CIC
“Vampire! Vampire! Vampire! We have incoming missiles this is not a drill people!” yelled a radar operator. On the bridge, the captain ordered them to go active. Then the SM-3 system went into full automatic mode within two minutes all the missiles were fired.
USS Gerald R. Ford
“Here we go, sea sparrow go active!” within seconds of that the sea sparrows had been fired. On one of the radar screens, the missiles were 102 miles out just as Bunker Hill missiles intercepted them most were hit but several clean misses. They were now fifty miles out and Gerald R. Ford sea sparrows began to intercept but there still at least 150 left. Now they were 30 miles out and now chaff rockets fired into the sky to create false targets and the ships began to maneuver erratically. In addition, the chance of ship collisions was a huge risk. The missiles were now within visual range and on the radar screen; small fast moving blips, which were missiles, began to connect with larger dots, which were ships.
USS Zuwalt
“All hands brace for impact!” yelled the captain into the ship intercom. Thirty seconds later three missiles hit the Zuwalt and she was blown apart and was lost with all hands.
CIC USS Gerald R. Ford
“Holy freaking crap!” screamed a radar operator as three missiles impacted the Zuwalt and there was a massive bloom on the scope. “We have missile seeker heads tracking us!” yelled one radar operator. “Computer identifies as an AS-6 Kingfish missile.” Said another radar operator. On the bridge, people were asking what we should do. The captain said. “We should turn into the missiles and have the CIWS go active.” Said the captain in a matter of fact way. The ship yawed heavy in a starboard turn. In the CIC, the chief weapon officer counted six missiles heading toward the Ford.
Flight deck of the Ronald Regan
“Get down everyone now!” yelled some just as a missile delivered its 1,000 kilogram warhead right on the flight deck killing 20 men instantly, thanks to a problem with the CIWS. Another two missiles were streaking in suddenly; something that sounded like a buzz saw spat lead at the missiles. A CIWS had gone active and destroyed both missiles then swiveled around and nailed another coming in from the other side.
CIC USS Bunker Hill
“Ronald Regan has been hit I repeat Ronald Regan has been hit!” a radar operator screamed. Then a voice came over the intercom “All hands brace for impact.” Yelled the captain. The ship shuddered as a missile was destroyed about 20 feet from her superstructure and ripped it apart as if it were a soda can.
Charles de Gaulle
“Oh my god were going to take at least two!” screamed the XO as two missiles streaked toward them at 900 knots. But what none of them saw but what a man on a chain gun was four more “Light them up!” ordered the gunner then his and two other chain guns opened fire but they only managed to nail one. Then the three missiles coming in from port impacted missile number one hit the bow. Missile number impacted at the water line at the stern and popped seals around one of the propellers and her engine room began to flood. Missile number 3 blew a hole out of the island on the carrier then the other two impacted and she exploded so violently that she was torn in half and went down like a rock the only survivors were the chain gun crews that tried their best save the carrier.
USS Gerald R. Ford
“All hands brace for impact!” Yelled the CO into the intercom. Four missiles were about to impact then one randomly exploded then four jets thundered overhead. They were from VFA-1 the wolfpack from CVN-65 USS Enterprise on her around the world cruise. Then the other three missiles connected. Missile number one hit the aft CIWS mount and destroyed a large amount of the island. Missile number two impacted the catapult system and wrecked it. Missile number three landed right on top of the CIC killing everyone inside.
Sea Hawk air divisions
“Where are they?” Said the pilot of sea hawk two. “I don’t know comrade.” Said the pilot of sea hawk one. “We have been hit we are going down someone shouted. All toll the Russians got off easy since the jets had been scrambled with whatever they had onboard. However, the Americans had taken a pounding the ships lost is as follows ships in bold lost with all hands.
