How to use
Download the image to your computer and save it.
Then go to Deviant > Settings > Identity.

I don't quite know if I can really type all of that out in a comment, but there have already been plenty of tutorials on how to make avatars that can be found on dA. It may be worth researching those if you really want to give pixeling a try.

Ah, Just try Graphicsgale for now then. The free version doesn't let you save .gif-files (animations), but thaht doesn't mean you can't already give pixeling a try. :3

Normally, in the box where you can see your layer, you should have an arrow pointing down with a line underneath it. Click that and you should be able to add a layer. :3
