Coda was in a dark mood. He'd gotten in trouble after tearing up his room, and was effectively grounded. Technically he wasn't supposed to be outside right now. He'd been told to stay in his room and clean it. But after all the recent events, Coda did not feel like listening to his housemaster. So now he was strolling around WhistlerCrest thinking over and over about what he'd done.

Planet X, those two kids. Neither of them had done anything to him. He'd just hurt them without provocation and without explanation. He was no better than the bullies he liked to fight. The white nyulop clenched his paws into fists. He hated this. He couldn't feel right about himself anymore. How could he when he had acted so monstrous to everyone around him? If only he could just go back in time and tell himself not to shove X out of that tree, none of this would be happening.

Suddenly, Coda's thoughts were interrupted by a cheerful and familiar voice. "There he is! Coda! Hey Coda!"

He looked up to see his two brother, Vivace and Adagio, approaching him. It'd been a long time since he'd talked to either of them, and now really wasn't a great time to reconnect. He kept his expression neutral as Vivace ran up to him, Adagio keeping a greater distance between them.

"Coda!" the dark nyulop chirped, "There y'are! We haven't talked in forever! How've you been? Adagio n' I have"

Coda had already tuned him out. The cheerful tone of his brother's voice was grating against his ears. He didn't like hearing someone else be so happy while he was not. He loved his brother, but Coda really wanted to tell him to shut his trap. Still, he had to be civil. Vivace was a soft soul and any negative feedback affected him greatly.

"Vivace..." he said, with no success. Vivace's words continued flowing like a river in the spring time.

Coda decided to try again. "Vivace." he said, a little louder this time, and once more in vain. Vivace hadn't even noticed he'd opened his mouth. Coda turned his eyes to the ground, gritting his teeth as his patience wore down. Perhaps he could just bear Vivace's ramblings for a few minutes and then say he had to go back inside. He wasn't supposed to be out here in the first place after all. His brother's would be disappointed that he had disobeyed Vac, but at least-

Coda's thoughts were once again interrupted as he felt a paw on his shoulder. His eyes snapped up. It was Vivace's paw. The dark nyulop had rested it on his shoulder while laughing about something, and seemed content to leave it there. Coda's heart began to thump. Ever since his spat with X, he had been seemingly extra sensitive to others touching him. Right now, he could feel ever strand of fur that Vivace's paw touched screaming out at him. "Vivace, please," he murmured, but his brother didn't seem to notice once again. Coda felt his patience run thin.

"Vivace...VIVACE! GET YA PAWS OFFA ME! CAN'T CHA UNDERSTAND PERSONAL SPACE?" he screamed, and then immediately clapped his paws to his mouth.

Vivace was on the ground, staring wide eyed up at him. Little tears had begun to leak from the corners of his eyes. Apparently, Coda had pushed him away violently enough that he'd fallen backwards. Coda was horrified. He reached out to his brother.

"Vivi, I-"

He didn't get far in his statement as Adagio hopped between the two, his normally neutral face twisted in fury. "Coda what is WRONG with you?" he demanded, kneeling down to comfort Vivace.

Coda didn't know. "I just....Jeez Vivi, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean ta push ya."

Vivace didn't respond, instead choosing to look down at his legs. Adagio was the one who answered. "When did you go from 'protecting us forever' to downright attacking us? What'd he do to you, huh Coda?" By now, Adagio had helped Vivace to his feet and was guiding him away, still keeping a hostile glare on Coda. "I KNEW something was up with you. I knew we couldn't trust you, not after abandoning us like that. Come on, Vivi, let's go."

Coda was in shock. He just stood there, mouth hung open as the two walked away. He didn't bother to give chase. What could he possibly say if he caught up with them? After all, Adagio had a point. He'd absolutely broken his promise to protect the both of them, indeed being the one to make Vivace cry just now.

The white nyulop stared down at his paws. His heart was beating against his ribs and he felt somewhat dizzy. How had he become such a monster? Had he always been this way and just never noticed? He squeezed his paws to his head. He wanted to throw up. The world was suddenly far too bright and much too loud. He wanted to curl up and shut down. Forget about things for a while. But he couldn't. Adagio's harsh words bounced in his head, and he couldn't help but think that maybe he was just a bad person.

Yeah, that was it. He was just bad. A rotten apple. It couldn't be helped. It was just his nature.

It was just who he was...
