Sure, Crash had a romantic interest in Tawna in the first game, but guess what? She disappeared after that. Most likely of the Japanese-exclusive canon where she leaves him for Pinstripe which made its way into the Wrath of Cortex Official Guide. It wasn't until Crash Tag Team Racing that we're introduced to Pasadena O'Possum, an employee at Ebenezer Von Clutch's MotorWorld.
When talking to Pasadena, Crash is more willing to help out Pasadena with her favors. In return, she asks for a kiss which makes Crash very queasy at the thought of being smooched by a girl who has a clear, romantic interest in him. And to that, I find that very adorable. These two would definitely make a cuter couple than Crash X Tawna imo.

Pasadena was always the right girl for Crash. She had way more personality and interactions with Crash than Tawna ever did in the first game.
