Description

Early one morning in town of Al Jawhar Wahat , Fatima is already hard at work. Rousing the freshly captured slaves from the keep and bringing them out one by one into the courtyard, to be chained and muzzle gagged. Next a cangue is brought around their neck and wrists, locking them securely in place. These cangues are further secured together so the slaves form a connected line. Satisfied with her work, Fatima shrieks a command in Arabic, ‘Get up you filthy dogs!’ To emphasis the point she raises her whip and delivers a few well aimed lashes, with the desired effect that the miserable men rise quickly to their feet.

With another set of whip cracks she orders them out of the courtyard and into the street. The slaves are then force marched through the winding streets and to the main square, where today was market day. However this market was special as there were no livestock on sale, unless of course, one termed human slaves as ‘livestock’…
