Description Something I've idly had half-assembled for a while, my version of Toa Kopaka Mata from Bionicle. Much like my version of Tahu, I made a few design choices that informed the rest. Compared to the wild passion of the fire Toa, Kopaka is cool as ice, calm and controlled yet hiding a heart as warm and caring as the rest of the team. As such, I went for a much more symmetrical look over my version of Tahu, keeping things in a very stark black and white color scheme.

I'm not as satisfied with this as I am with my version of Tahu, for a couple of reasons. As much as I did want a solid black and white color scheme, I'm realizing that A) that's a very harsh scheme and B) it makes him very monotone. I think on a future version I'll swap out lots of the blacks for greys and see if I can find some blues or such to break things up. Also, since I don't think I have enough parts to have both a Mata and a Nuva version at the same time, I might go whole hog and make some hybrid Kopaka that's a sort of cross between all his different eras, using Nuji Metru's mask as a different version of his mask of x-ray vision. Complete with a nice big sword made from his Mata and Nuva weapons. We'll see.

How does the head connect to the body?

I attached one of the basic "hand" joints to the old-style Bionicle head, and then that clips to the Matoran-style body I use for the back. While the head can move a little bit, it effectively means that the "neck" is way behind the head, so it doesn't look great from most angles. Still, best I could do at the time.

Thanks. He's one of my earlier ones so he probably needs a tweak/tune soon to make him look better.

It kind of bugs me that the hilt is so long, but it's not bad. I'm wondering if I should start converting it into a Kopaka Nuva figure and give him a new sword.

the fact that it's so long is what makes it awesome in my opinion and it looks so much like an actual sword

I guess I could try to make 2.0 versions of the rest of them… dunno how far I'd get into that project before I gave up though.

Well, I'm also trying to write some stuff on the side. Original fiction and what not.

No problem: one of my best friends is Russian, it's really funny when he gets sleepy and his grammar turns to a Russian sentence structure.

Cool shield attachment. And again; I love how well HF mimics the Mata/Nuva.

HaroldPotter In reply to ZogtheAngryChipmunk [2012-05-06 01:27:45 +0000 UTC]

I'm actually not that huge a fan of the attachment: I'd prefer the shield to be more centered on his arm and be more flexible, but it was the best I could do in a hurry. I'll see what I can do on a future variation.

I only know one way that would make it shorter, and it needs a relatively rare part. And even then, it would still restrict mobility. Perhaps attaching it to armor instead of the skeleton would improve the appearance?

HaroldPotter In reply to ZogtheAngryChipmunk [2012-05-06 01:41:17 +0000 UTC]

Maybe. Again, there's a few things I want to try for a future version, including giving Kopaka two different swords and stuff like that. I'll see what I can do about the shield then.

TWO EXPOSED BALL JOINTS!

HaroldPotter In reply to zaxuru32123 [2012-05-06 01:20:48 +0000 UTC]

Four, actually: he's got a dual-ball mount attachment on his back for storing his shield and hypothetically his sword. Most of my designs have those two balls visible because, well, I can't think of a good way to hide them that doesn't unnecessarily bulk up the design. I might be able to do something on my Kopaka Hybrid thing.
