Description I have a morality rule.  If I take an image of a stranger, if at all possible, let them be aware you are taking their picture.  I don't ask them to pose, just be themselves.

Most of the time, this works out well, and I always try to give them a copy, if possible. In today's internet world, this is much easier. Sometimes I will hand them the camera to take an image of me, sort of as a tit for tat effort.

I had taken a few images of this carny, and hung around for this last one, as the boss came by to investigate.  Taken with a Zeiss Contarex with 55mm F1.4 Planar on Ilford FP4 panchromatic film in 1971.

As you can see, not everyone likes the photographer.

Feel free to download, just give me photo credit.

Unlike my usual documentary portraits, I made this one for me, sort of an inside joke, to not take life too seriously.  This is the full negative, untouched, with dust spots and other film characteristics.

Other images are in my gallery "Carnival time".

Yep. I've run into that. But at a carnival? Good grief.

interesting photo. I like it better after reading your story about it. thanks for sharing. I always try to remain completly candid when taking pictures of strangers thoug I do feel like I am invading their privacy.
